    I have a 55 291 Desoto and a 57 Chrysler 392.

The 291 is disassembled in my shop waiting for a project.

The 392 is complete but not in my Shop yet - just waiting to go get it!

    I'll get some pics.

Hey, I'm not trying to be a smart ass but here's my Hemi.

After climbing telephone poles for AT&T for 37 years I retired and gave myself this present.

I bought it new, it's a 2006 Heritage Edition 300C. It's got the 5.7, but I've added the Mopar Catback Exhaust and a K&N Intake.

I have a '53 331 that I got for Fathers Day a few years ago. Not quite sure what I will put it in yet...

  6. Hate to bust your bubble guys but the new hemi isn't one by definition. The hemi refers to the combustion chamber being machined in a smooth hemispherical shape. Quoteing Bob Sheaves from Allpar on the New Hemi.

"The Hemi design combustion chamber is one of the poorest designs for emissions - why do you think it took so long to get it into production? It almost did not make emissions test requirements even with the modifications. ... Today's Hemi is that (a "Hemi") in name only. [Editor's note: Bob is referring to the head design. It is not a true hemispherical head, but looks vaguely like a hemispherical head with parts filled in.]"

Here is a pic of the new hemi chamber

    And here is the old.

I will never trust ebay again!......

    ha ha ha

  8. Sorry to disagree with Kerry but the 5.7 and 6.1 new generation III engines have true hemispherical combustion chambers, opposed valves, dual rocker shafts and twin plugs to boot.

  11. But they still don't have a spherical chamber and do use quench which makes the chamber sort of oval.

I've got one in my '31 coupe. Its a 330 DeSoto from a 1956 no post, four door, donor car.

  20. Not sure if I own the hemi or the hemi owns me at this point.

1957 354 Chrysler Industrial. Spent its life in an aircraft tug. Now going into my 52 Dodge Truck ( link to my build thread in my signature line).

  21. So show me the hemi chamber you're talking about because that isn't a hemi chamber you attached with your post. Look at it this way, if you had a ball the right size it would rit in the hemi chamber perfectly (w/o valves of course). Not gonna happen on the chamber in your picture, regardless of the twin plugs. It is an oval chamber with quench on either side.

Not sure why I'm being such a hardass about this.

Raining on your parade again StudebakerBob.

BTW Chryco, Gen II's are definitely a real hemi!

You can expect that type of thing to happen when you post a 2006 late model on a traditional hot rod/custom board. The spirit of the thread was geared primarily for early hemi's.....but you knew that already.

new owner of a 392, going in the '26 t. i figured if i was going to build a fiber car it better be a race car.

  24. Kerry is correct in that the Gen. III chamber is not as true a sphere as the early Hemi heads however they are not a wedge heads. The valves are opposed at 18/16.5 degree inclinations which reduces the mass and width of the cylinder head. The chamber volume on the 6.1 is 74.5 CCs, the 392 chamber volume is 109 and the 426 is 170. The piston is slightly domed So Kerry if these are not hemi heads what are they? Pent Chamber?

  25. Yep, pent roof. The name comes from the combustion chamber shape, not the valve arangement.
