This is a 55 331 Chrysler hemi engine going in the 51 Henry J replica of my dad's X gasser.
1st pic is at the shop after assembly, paint and test fit of blower assembly. Will finish painting valve covers after break in.
2nd & 3rd are at my local machine shop getting ready to break the motor in and then do some dyno runs.

  9. This is a great thread! I thought a few of you guys might appreciate what I do with my Blown Hemi engines. I made a complete set of molds off a 1957 392 Chrysler 300 engine. I got the block, head, oil pan and the 300 Valve covers from Bob Walker of Hot Heads. I had the blower from when I raced hydroplanes back in the day. I've been building display engines out of fiberglass, and plastic for over twenty years. The Flathead, and the small, and big block Chevy's are popular and I've built around 500 reproductions in all. But the Hemi is by far the most popular of all the engines I've produced.
I've placed them in a number of things over the years, and they always draw a crowd at any show I bring them to. My customers have used them for everything from a cooler for there beer to a TV stand. One guy left the blower hat off and uses the Blown Hemi as a golf bag.
Some of us guys never quite playing with models. Even if there full size.
I had a fucken ass hole once say that I had to much time on my hands. I told him not anymore time than he had drinking in the bar and then going home and beating up his wife and kids, and offered to give him a boxing lesson. Some of us old Golden Gloves boxers never quite down. My reproduction engines aren't for everyone, but nothing in life is.

This piston is a .060 (thousands) oversize in a 1956 354 block that was engineered by Ross Pistons to make 10.5 to one compression with the 1955 - 1556157 Head AKA "Triple Nickel" Head.

  15. Just this past fall, I joined the ranks again with the purchase of a Desoto 291 "baby hemi". Don't have any plans for it yet, but I couldn't pass it up for the price I got it for.

    40 Ford,
How high does your dome stick up to give you that kind of compression?I know there are other factors on CR. but just some idea.

The engine is already buttoned up so I can't give you a dome height.
The deck to piston was .012. I had extra valve clearence cut into
the pistons. We CC'd the heads and Ross did their magic from there. I don't even remember the CCs of the head.
This engine was built about 2 years ago and is waiting on the car to
be finished. The webpage for the build is at:
    http://webdesignsadsd.com/40-57/53plymouth.html

    I went through Hot Heads.

  19. Other than the amount of overbore, that seems to be identical to what I have in the 354 in my Dragmaster. I'm running it with a 6/71 11% overdriven on alcohol.

I have a wounded spare I can measure tonight. I'll get the distance from the top of the pin to the top of the dome for you.

Here's mine. Going into my '32 roadster. '57 392, aluminum heads, dual 4-barrel throttle bodies (two Edelbrock 4-barrels were on for the initial dyno run), built by Ray Zeller, Taylor Engine, Bob Morgan and Steve Sbelgio. I expect it on the road early this spring.
