I'm getting ready to drill the front axle on my 31, and was wondering how many holes you put in your axle. Pictures are appreciated....
I've done a few superbell axles I put 14 holes in them (not drilling in the emblem) 7/8 hole on 2" centers I also made a simple jig using 3 2" washers cut flat so they fit down in the recess of the axle and tacked together.
Check out the tread (what would you do with a 32 axle and bones this is what I did) I would do a link but I have no clue how to do it I did 19 1 1/8 hole's on 1.777 center's that leaves 5/8 between holes
Did 13 in a Ch***is Engineering Forged,4" drop. Cut out some discs out of a light cardboard/ heavy paper and lay them out in the recess of the axle.. Move them around (change the distance between them) and change the number. You'll come up with a combination that catches your eye. Frank
For doing a mock up for hole layout..I use 3/8 flat washers. I do a min. of 17 and a max. of 21 on 28 to 36 axles.
i know they say you not to drill a cast axle(a completely different debate), but how many have people drilled in a super bell axle?
The one's in the photo I think were 1'' Iv done some with 7/8 and some heavys with 1 1/6 and 1 1/8. Whatever the guys want or whats sharp at the time
I personally have done 3, using A 7/8 hole saw slow and NO lube (seriously it works better without cutting oil)
