How many leafs in 35-40 frt spring

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fenderless Freddy, Oct 7, 2006.

  1. I'm stumbling through the assembly of a 1936 ford pick. At the present i am putting the front end together. Plans call for a 350/350 combo. How damn many leafs do i need in the stock front leaf? (don't really care to do the trial and error thing too many times). I am using a moordrop frt. axle and stock
spring with split bones. at the time there is no engine in it and it is kind of hard to determine just what the ride height will be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. In advance, until you are better paid, thank you!

11 was standard issue for car, pickup was 13, according to ancient shop manual data I collected. I took several out of my AV8 spring, and didn't hold it up, put all back to 11 leaves so no bottom out.

  4. In my 40's I run 10 or 11. I take out all the short ones and rearch everything with an equal arc.

Gives a good ride and great handling.

I have a 38 ford coupe with the 350/350 combo. I don't remember orig. number of leafs I started with. I ended up with 9 including a new main leaf with the eyes reversed. It set the car extremly low [COOL] and on really smooth blacktop roads it rode nice. The biggest problem I had was bottoming out. There was just no travel in the suspension. Probably could have added a couple of leafs but switched to a Posies Super Slide. Does'nt sit quite as low but the ride is a whole lot better on the rougher pavement.
