I drove to Texas from NY to get my 57 210 2dr sedan. It was a long god damn ride. Luckily it was 3 years ago so gas was not a big deal. 3100+ miles round trip.

I bought a mint '53 Olds 88 hardtop from an old man in Colorado Springs last year, took the whole fam, and dog. Round trip..I think was well over 3,000 mi. It took 4 days of straight driving. It was an adventure to say the least.[IMG]

Flew into LA back in 1975 and drove a '56 Ford Half Ton home to Connecticut in 5 days. EVERYONE should drive cross country at least once in their lifetime.

My wife and I flew down to Florida and drove back in a '64 Chevy pickup. A little over 1000 miles one way. In retrospect, I could have found a cheaper, easier project much closer to home (especially since I wasn't looking for a project), but it ranks at the top of both of our "best roadtrips" lists.

The highlight? Probably calling my boss from somewhere in Georgia on a Monday morning to let him know I was going to be a little late. Kind of set the tone for the rest of the trip.

I drove from hollywood to San diego to buy a 63 Galaxie, then a few years later i went there again for a 64 Gal, i did a 6 hour drive to San Jose for a 63 buick - after that trip i decided i will never drive more than 3 hours for a car, with gas, trailer and all that shit it really makes a good deal - not so good

i've gone to washugal (sp?) washington from san diego for a $300 a sedan body, even with gas it was still a good deal, the only part that sucked was going through the norcal mountains, during a snow storm in a truck with no heater.

i've also gone to the santa cruz mountains to pickup a 33 chevy truck.

'39 ford pickup-Columbus, Ohio to Scottsbluff, Nebraska-2 years ago. 1200+ miles
'29 Model A roadster body-Columbus, Ohio to the middle of Kansas-last month. 920 miles
And a lot of shorter trips for newer rebuildable cars. You would think I could find what i want a little closer to home!

I had to do a 700 mile round trip to pick up my 31 Model A. If the price is right then it is worth the trip.

  16. My HJ was 3 miles from my house when I got it. Originally it was in Long Beach CA. The owner I got it from drove it from Long Beach to Mentor, Ohio in 1987 and it has been in NE Ohio since then.

  18. In dec 89 I bought a 79 Fiat sypder in Ventura Ca and drove non stop to Nova Scotia when we found out the heater didn't work the first night out. I think it was 3600 miles in 72 hrs. 90 degrees acoss the Mojave desert and then snow from Flagstaff to Canada. Tried to find parts for a fiat in NM on a Saturday morning ....yeh right.
I think we averaged 49.9 MPH for the trip. I did learn not to slipstream 18 wheels in red sportscars with Ca plates @ 3am. (the hardway)

I want to do it again, in another rust free Ca car, something from the 50s this time .
    Roadtrips rule.
    I towed a 64 Acadian and 55GMC across Canada and drove a 66 Pontiac once 3000 miles
    I need another roadtrip.

The wife still has the Fiat

  19. I went from MPLS. to Owatonna MN. to get my 32 tudor.. just mentioning "Owatonna "here will torque off some of those locals..
Its about 2-3 hourdrive depends on the time of day " MPLS TRAFFIC"
All other recent car purchases have included delivery and I am ALWAYS ready with my AAA card IN CASE OF A REAL RUSHED DEAL...

SEEMS THAT THE CLOSER STUFF IS "BETTER "ACCORDING TO THE THREAD.

Got my Lincoln from Indiana Took me about a month to get everything lined up; plane tickets, lodging, transportation(autobahn did a great job, just took a couple o weeks of no sleep till she got here.) Pat (original owner) helped out big time. Thanks Pat!

  22. Drove from Pasadena, California to Denton, Texas and back to buy my '36 Tudor. Hauled it back on a single axled sprint car trailer with no brakes. Memorable little trip. Wayno

I live in Michigan. One of the shoeboxes I have now came from New York and the other one came from Utah. I bought both of them site unseen with the help of some HAMBers and wasn't dissapointed in either one:) HAMBers know a good car when they see one;)

  24. I found my 26 T body in Minnesota earlier this year. Too far to go. So we worked a deal and I picked it up at the Chickasha, Oklahoma swap meet. About a thousand miles round trip. Furthest I ever went for a car. But women? In 1966 I drove fram California to Conneticut and back just to see a girl I had been writing while I was in Viet Nam. At least sixty five hundred miles. But I have my priorities lined up.

Traveled ~250 miles to Philly for my Comet. Between the distributor cap burning up, the generator not charging, the car overheating and the transmission overheating it took two days and three towtrucks to get her home.

  28. 100 mile trip to Melbourne Airport.
Melbourne Australia to LAX 15 hr flight, approx 9000 miles.
Renta car from LAX to Centralia Washington, approx 900miles.
Rent a 24ft furniture van and trailer in Portland Oregon, $600 cheaper than in Centralia.
Load my 34 Five window and 38 coupe and mates 28 coupe.
Mate drives the truck with me following in the renta 1014 miles to Long Beach.Nothing over 55 mph.
Cars go into container and makes the trip to Melbourne via Singapore, which is the scenic route to Australia but it's cheaper go figure.
Jump on plane at LAX another 15 hr flight to Melbourne
100 mile trip back to home.
When cars finally arrive in Australia another 200 mile round trip to pick them up.
    It's all too easy really.:D

1300 plus miles round trip S.W.Ohio to Iowa to get my Dodge. I guess its like the old saying about the grass being greener on the other side of the fence or in this case the country.
