Hey Hambers Like to know how many of us are having to cut back the build because of finances? lets hear it.
I have slowed almost to a halt. Cleaning things up and fixing things that don't cost a lot of money. You have to count it all as good.
How about reverse I've got a 29 dodge and a couple of different engine sitting around. Right now there's two transmissions that I need to fix first, plus the job market here kind of sucks.
Im in But I keep pushing through .Please buy my stuff in the classified. Spend some of your cash for clunkers here.Another carcrazy parts sale
I've put all my Essex rebuild plans on hold until I start bringing in some decent wages again. It's driveable the way it is, but only for fairly short (100-120 miles at a time) distances. That really isn't too bad though, since I can't afford to go much farther to an event anyway. LOL
me too. I hope I will get paid soon (customers have a bad habit of delaying payments)... I am behind almost 5k in taxes and 2k in health insurance, and some less in countless other things. No significant work done on any car, be it H.A.M.B.-friendly or not, in the last three months. I simply cannot afford it now- completely broke safe for the eighty bucks in US currency and about 20 euros I still keep in the drawer.. ya know, for the "really bad times".
Had plans to rebuild the Nailhead and install that with a 4-speed and posi rear in my '37 Chevy coupe. Depended on selling one or two of my cars. Hardly any one buying anything. So.....I'm gettin' her up and running for now with a 235. Use what I have...tired of seeing her sit. Just took her for a ride around the barn...yeehaww. Rick
I have a 59 chevy truck that is about $500 away from done and it looks like it might be a long winter before anything gets done on it Rents getting hard to make in this economic wasteland
The economy hasn't slowed down progress significantly but then again I was never fabricating at a lightening pace before. The economy did curtail the wrecking yards of dreams tour a few friends and I have taken annually for the past several years. I can't complain, I'm blessed with a fairly stable career and I still have toys to play with.
Lost the regular sales job last fall(HOT ROD CENTRAL LOUVER CO.), so I had no choice but to take my very part time hot rod business full time. Finally things are starting to break and get better. Have also had a tough time selling some of my stuff too. Thankfully I didn't need to sell it all!
I'd love to blame it on money, but the 51 Plymouth is on hold because shit keeps breaking around the house!
I'm busy as hell at work but also had to take a 19k loss per year to keep it. I'm trying to drive the 55 as much as I can but now I can't even afford simple maintenence on it. What I take out of my check barely keeps my daily and me running for the week
I feel I have been moving turtle slow anyways ..economy or other wise..too many other things that are higher on the priority list..but i keep making even progress when i can.. I try to make what i can, buy used when i find, and the things I want and cant find used, i save up and make one or 2 big purchases ,..than im flat for a while.. slow i guess..im not splurging..trying to keep it sane, if the economy wasnt like this would i be moving faster...maybe..but i know if it was better i would be buying what i need and holding on to it until im ready to use it, and thats not happining
I realize now why some cars are shiny and pretty cause when you don't have money. soap, water and intimate time with your projects are cheap and valuable to the future!!! Oh and PABST blue ribbon!!!! HAHAHA
Cut back? Not at all. My problem is the same old same old. Place to work. Space to work. I have three projects I want to get done, but if you dont have a place to work, kinda slows you down. Always looking for extra parts for a few projects I have, and the right place right time right price 64 Falcon Convert I want...
I'm trying to cut back but my friend wants to sell all his car stuff he's been collecting for the last 30 years or so
We are holding steady right at the moment, AND keeping our heads above water. But we aren't buying anything either, No spare parts or extras for the sake of stashing anything back as far as working on the the cars go, they are all running at the time being, however we aren't improving them in anyway, just regular maintenance . Need a couple paint jobs done, a five speed installed and a few other things that I've held off on doing just to save the money in case, ya never know! But WE ARE BLESSED for sure to be doing as well as we are. Better then some NOT as good as some others.............
Since I try to do all the work myself all I need is time, buts works slowed some so Im there more hours now to make the same $$(commision pay). so now the time is limited.
Well I got most of the engine cleaned and painted for the A. getting ready to finish the shop and good old state fo Colorado has come up with 4 furlough days ( days off no PAY ) one in Sept.,Oct., Nov., and Dec. They say there might be more after Jan. 2010. That puts the A on hold until I see what happens. It's been 20 yrs. trying to get started on it ant the greedy bankers and gov. come along and screw it up. Lee
Nothing will slow me down. Jalopies are already my daily drivers. If necessary she will have to drive one of them because the off topic that she prefers will be sold to support the hobby.
One thing to remember, BARTER, brother the new cash of the recession, depression what ever you want to call it. Think about what you do and have to offer, and take advantage of free ads in craigslist, local papers, and barter your self what you need. Maybe someone in Admin, or a Moderator might think a section for "barter" might help out some of the hambers in the world, cant hurt to ask. I pray NO-ONE reading this is suffering so bad from this recession, that thier hot-rod is on hold, and growing mold. Keep the faith!!
Count me in. Things were going great, built my new house, bought a few project cars and trucks, and was ready to start buying my shop equipment when the bottom fell right out. So far I managed to keep my house and projects, but nothing's getting built. At least tear down is free, lol. With that done, I've been spending all my time on the internet. The post count shows it, lol.
As a retired person ... on a guaranteed set fixed income ( government retirement check ) ... I am doing OK But I had saved up big time ... to do my 32 3W. I have about used up all the money I had set aside for the 32 ( plus some other money ). The coupe needs the upholstery done and it will be basically finished. It is at the upholstery shop now and the bill is over half paid already. The economy is affecting my " extra income a LOT ". I have bought and sold ... so most of my adult life ... and nothing is moving much here in the South. Came up on a couple SUPER deals on real estate but I have been afraid to make a move on them. I have a few friends who buy/sell/flip real estate ( like I have done in the past ) and they are still holding parcels that they bought 2 or more years ago. @ 61 ... I am not interested in long term investing ... so I sit and wait.
I have been at a stand still for the whole year. Dont even have the energy to work on the 29. But I run into a few bucks from selling some stuff that I did not need or ever use. So with that said,I am going to the swap meet tomorrow to get an axle, front tires and what ever I might run into that I will need to start on a rolling chassis.
need a door latch, two tires, and a battery. but on fixed income can't get them now. Talked to my finacial person about unfixin it a bit so I can finish up. When ther is money there is no time, when there is time there is money. Hmmm reminds me of the old 60's saw, drugs will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no drugs................
