I'm retired two and a half years now. Did it at 52, now I do whatever I want with no pressure to finish or quota, I work on any one of four vehicles I have which ever one I feel like and right now it is the 33 five window chevy powered by the HEMI

I worked 33 years as a high school Art teacher, administrator, and counselor.....I bagged it in 1999, retired and couldn't be happier......I loved my career, but I don't miss it at all......

All those degrees that now are meaningless......oh well.......at least I am free at last!

Congrats. I retired in 2001 after 31 years of delivering mail and reading all of your car magazines before you got them(only kidding about the mags). I was only 55 at the time and ended up back working full time a few years ago at a job I enjoy very much. The nice thing about a second career is that you don't HAVE to do it. Actually makes going to work easier. Lots of money for car parts too. Like your avatar. I was there in 67-68. You put in your required time. Now go and enjoy life. Paul

Retired last year with a SSA disability at 51. It seems that I fried my guts with radiation from working on communication towers. Eveybody always said I was half baked. Good luck and take care.

Congrats Dave! I hung it up 2 1/2 years ago after 35+ years. Don't know if I can build another car... I'm just about out of stainless nuts and bolts and other supplies. If you're like me you will wonder how you ever had time to work.

You'll LOVE it, Dave. I've been out 4-1/2 years (at 55). Everybody told me that it'd take a year to acclimate to retirement........I was acclimated before I cleared the freakin' parking lot !!

All the best to you !!

Not sure how to reply as my real job was in the Hot Rod industry! Owned an advertising and marketing agency with clients like Offenhauser, JE Pistons, Crower Cams, Jardine Headers, Bill Thomas Race cars, EELCO, Hurst Tires and so on. Used to make more money by accident in the olden days than the guys are pulling down today. Still write articles for the car books when I feel like it. I bailed out in '89 and spend time on m hot rods, 4x4's and a new Airstream.

I retired in 2003 at the suggestion of my company. I worked really long hours until then, and I'm surprised at how little I miss it.
