May 11th 2008 is my last day! If I make it that long. I said I'm done on my 40th birthday! And I'm sticking to it.

I retired Jan 30 2006, The company still has me officially on medical leave of absence, but social security has approved disability retirement. This wasn't my plan, I loved my job and wanted to keep on working, but I didn't listen when they said smoking might be bad for you. Emphysemia has fucked up my life! All my own doing, can't really sue the Marlboro man or the asbestos company. I'm just happy to be able to do what I can, after all I woke up this morning! Retirement is very very good to seldom scene...wife still works...financially secure...Thank You God for another day!

I'll be 59 in September and really want to retire at 62. I just don't know how I am going to pay all the damn bills on a retirement income. I have a good retirement plan the ex-wife took most of my 401K. How do you guys do it?

  8. I get my full pension in May 2007. I turn 50 in March. I can keep working if I want to. Probally will, the guy I work for is great and I keep all my junk in the warehouse (6000 sq.')

Looking forward to it in 15 years - told the Missus that she may have to go get a job then, but that I was out of there!

I got a ways to go now, I have so many things going on I wish I could retire tomorrow...BUT

My father had 40 years in at Wixom Assembly (Lincolns) and wasn't ready to go...he was pushed out. Still doesn't know what to do with himself. He "offcially" retired about a month ago. He was never much of a car guy besides ignighting my interrest in them. He hung out around the Alexander Brother's shop when he was a kid, so he has a thing for Kustoms...now if I could just convince him to buy one... :)

I think it's important to have outside interests, be it cars or whatever, I worry about my Dad now.

    MercMan1951,

 Push your dad a little bid towards customs, take him to some slows and he might get hooked. Father and son cruises to the shows could be very valuable time together, don't miss the chance to spend time with him. When you leave something after 30 years its not easy to get back into other interests. Be there for your dad and maybe you'll be cruising to shows together soon.

    Be cool

I'm within months of it unless they run me off first. I still enjoy work at 66 but I've known too many guys around me that have passed before receiving their first retirement check so I'm looking forward to everyday as a Saturday!

If possible, do all you can to immediately pay off your credit card when it comes due. Pay off the mortgage on your house BEFORE you retire. Plan it so you are debt free when you retire. (Easy to say, hard to do.)

I have a bout 25 years to go until I hit common retirement age, but I may have to work until I'm 80, considering how much money I spend on cars!
