I used to be brand loyal when I was younger it started with Fords then Mopars, Chevrolet, Pontiac, back to Fords now toss in a couple of GMC’s and a few more Fords……..yeah you get the idea :p:p:p If it’s got a motor and no newer than the early 80’s I like them all.

  2. One of my first working on cars adventure came at age 15. I was helping am older friend put a used automatic transmission in a Ford wagon.

Up it went, could not get a bolt started, took it down, looked at it... rinse, repeat. Finally someone comes along and enlightens us that Ford used multiple bolt patterns.

FoMoCo products have featured in my life more than any other brand - hence my car. However, should time and money make it possible, there'd be cars from almost all the American car makers in my dream garage, as well as a few Japanese and maybe one or two British vehicles... OK, one Audi also.

No Koreans, Chinese or any EV and nothing built after 2018 - those all have an in-built spy and here in the EU there's already too much of governments pushing their noses into our affairs.

I've owned em all. Chevys, Fords, Mopars, imports. Old stuff, newer stuff. I like it all.
I like the the old school hotrod stuff the most, that's why I'm here. This is pretty much the only place I post on the internet anymore.

Loyalty to a corporation, what a concept.......

I'm only a Chevrolet guy...wait, that could be a lie.

To be honest, I grew up strictly GM since that is who put food on the table through my dad's job for 28 years. But, I obviously haven't stuck with that considering the brands at the house even now which would include Chevrolet, GMC, Jaguar, Ford, Mercury, Chrysler, Mini, Harley, Yamaha, etc. If I listed all the brands of stuff I have owned, the list would be much longer. I pretty much just like old stuff anymore. And, I can basically care less about any late model vehicles. I kind of hate that considering my upbringing and even the fact that my brother works for GM and his wife works for Chrysler. But, I have absolutely no interest in spending money on anything built in the last 25 years or so at least for myself. Now...I do have some later model stuff, but that is so my wife will have something reliable to drive.

  8. As far as Hot Rods ~ I'm a Ford guy through & through and have been most of my life, Model A's, Deuces & 40 Fords. and several 50's Fords - A 1950 and a couple of '54 Fords.

I don't have a problem with different manufacturers, I just prefer Fords for myself, if that makes me a snob in your book, so be it. HRP

Dad was a Chevy guy, he had a couple Fords but always considered himself a Chevy guy. So I am a Chevy Guy, only Fords I have were 40's I loved (still do) the lines and all mine have been Chevy Powered 40's. Yes I get teased but I'm used to it.

Dad started with Fords (38 and 40), then a couple of Nashes and lastly MoPars, I've had New Mopars and Fords, a 69 Javelin (early 70's) but my "special interest" vehicles were a 38 Chevy (still have it), 78 Vette, chopped 49 Ford, 53 Studebaker Coupe, glass 27 T and the latest is a 62 F100 short box unibody rust bucket. At least I am a little bit non denominational:)

  13. I don't know what the Studebaker wagon is called with the sliding roof I think wagonaire (I might be wrong)...
But I got a major crush on one of those cars I would love to make it into a daily driver economy cruiser meaning a 4-cylinder (probably out of one of the mini trucks) and under dash AC... Keep it looking Baker but have the 20ish miles a gallon under the hood so I could use it for parts running and estate sales.
I haven't searched for one for a while I really need to scratch that 'baker itch It's going to become infected if I don't lol

  14. You have an S10 and not a Ford mother effing Ranger (It's a tick tock/YouTube thing the way I worded it if you did not get the joke)?
    You're a sinner!!! Lol
I have never owned a S10 I really like the square ones from the '80s but here in California they got to go through smog still So I haven't scratched that itch I got to say I really want one with a little 283 and a five speed.

You might be a bit disappointed with a 4 banger with A/C in a wagon, it would probably be a real dog... but the Stude 259 with a 4 bbl. carb, (small secondaries) dual exhaust and an O/D get pretty good milage and will pull a loaded wagon with A/C just fine. mine did...

Man does not live by Pontiac alone, there is also John Deere!

Seriously, US brands I have owned, in alphabetic order:

Buick, Chevrolet, Chevy Corvette, Dodge, Ford, Pontiac, Studebaker

Not sure I can remember all of the non-USA brands I owned prior to being bit by the "buy-American" bug.
Of the vehicles I have owned:

    Favorite US vehicles: 1968 F100 (modified), 1974 GTO (modified), 1979 Mustang turbo-Cobra.
    Favorite non-USA vehicles: 1953 Jaguar XK-120-S, 1960 Triumph TR-3A, 1968 Datsun SRL-311 (modified)

Would have liked to have lived where I could have tested the vehicles for both acceleration and top speed. It would have been a two vehicle competition between the GTO and the Datsun.

I like both unusual and quality.

There are MANY I either never had a chance to purchase, or could not afford to do so.

I detest electronics, especially when they fail !

I saw a guy at the watering hole up the street with a ridiculously well inked tattoo on his arm. A full, exploded view of a SBC. An entire sleeve of intricate parts; timing chain, window distributor, Holley carb, AC plugs...all in color and extremely well done. There's brand loyalty, and then there's that guy taking it to a whole new level.

Had nearly all of 'em. AMC(Rambler), Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevy, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Ford
(cars& trucks) Mercury (cars & trucks), Never had a Lincoln, Pontiac, Studebaker or DeSoto. My mom had a Mazda in her later years, the only foreign car ever on the property.
As far as motorcycles I was strictly an H-D guy, or as the Indian salesman used to say "one of those
    ruffians from across the road"

My Grandad put his horses out to pasture when he could afford a Fordson tractor. We have been a Ford family ever since. Front of the house looks like a Ford dealership when we have a family event. One of my nieghbors calls my house “The Ford House” I have a ton of Ford parts and manuals.
I am a retired Fleet Manager and I know from experiance that vehicles from the Big 3 actually have very similar reliability, but I just like Fords.
As a side note, my wife inherited a bitchin’CJ-3B.I am looking forward to diving into that project, with no plans to put any Ford parts on it. :)

Studebaker Wagonaires are about 3,300-3,600 Lbs. A modern 4 might work with proper gearing. I'd encourage you to find a good running Stude V8 one, either 259 or 289, and see if it does what you want. You will probably fall a little short of 20 MPG in city driving, but it should be easy on the highway. Studebaker parts, especially for Lark types, which is what a Wagonaire is, are very easy to get. And you won't have to spend 2 years getting it running.

Every second car I've had has been a VW Golf Mk1. This wasn't by choice: it just worked out that way. I've got to know Golf Mk1 idiosyncrasies very well, but given a total free choice I wouldn't have got as deeply invested in a small fwd platform as I have.

  23. @Mike VV that started the thread is a HUGH Studebaker guy. I like them a lot also, my girl has a '60 Lark Wagon that really impressed me with it's torque, quality and MPG.

The Wagonaire is gets fairly pricey, I think because of the roof. A stock 259 2bbl with an o/d trans work get you what you want.....the a/c will most likely drop it below 20 mpg though. I really hate to say it but a modern EFI engine (V6) might be needed.

  24. Ford fans are definitely more prejudiced than Chevy fans. When i drive my '67 Chevy truck i always get comments like 'that's a great old truck'. When i drive my '75 Ford truck the comments always are 'That's a great old truck....helluva lot better than a goddamn Chevy'. The ford crowd always has to get their anti chevy dig in. Another lifelong observation: You always hear ford guys bitch about chevy engines in ford cars, but you never hear a chevy guy give another chevy guy shit about using a 9'' rear in a chevy car. Chevy people are just generally happier and more practical people.
