    Hi Guy's,

I have just spent a couple of hours in the garage looking for a F1 clutch equalizer shaft. I know I still have it as I remember cleaning it up but I wasn't able to fit it yet as I needed the equalizer ball bracket and bushing which I now have. I have looked everywhere for it, I know if I buy another it will show up the same day the other one arrives. Anyone else have similar problems?

I've spent all day in the garage what with all the rain we are having at last. I managed to finish my torque tube and driveshaft for the Sport Coupe and thought I would start on the clutch linkage.

I loose crap all the time, I usually find it right after the new one that I just bought shows up............I blame it on old age...

While replaceing the shocks on my Moto Guzzi I dropped one of the washers JUST as the phone rang. Went to answer the phone and never found the washer. That was about 15 years ago. What is a bitch is when you forget what you were looking for and find something totally unrelated to what you need.

I find it easier to just go get another part rather than waste an afternoon looking for a part I lost six months ago. I lost a mag in the garage for three years. Stumbled across it when I was looking for something totally unrelated.

Hell, I lose parts and tools two minutes after i put them down within a 3 foot radius of where i'm sitting. I can't tell you how many times i was sitting on the floor, or under my car, or at a bench - i hadn't moved since the last time the tool or piece was used last and something will inevitablly disappear on me. I don't know how its possible, but it happens to me regularly.

Nothing frustrates or pisses me off more.

I'm missing a crate Hemi. If anyone has it, PLEASE send me a PM and I'll come get it. Thanks in advance. :D

It's a known fact that a Parts Black Hole does exist! Sometimes it takes a part and it's never seen again. Other times, it'll take a part and return one from a previous encounter. If alcohol is involved... whole vehicles have been known to vanish!

  10. I lose stuff all the time too! It's not b/c I'm old either, I'm only 27. So I have no excuse!!

I don't think I'd lose stuff,if it wasn't for the little bitty gator-bat's that grab every thing I drop, and go hide it,then when they see I went and got a replacemint, they put it in plan site again, just to piss me off!
Be carefull ya don't get any of these things in your shop, cus I've never be able to get rid of them, you know ya can't see them ,there too dam fast.

Everything has a place and everything is in its place. I've always been organised, a trait I guess.

    me too!!

I had a buddy who had a dog that would eat small hardware, I remember one night before a cruise night the dog ate some minor hardware but he would not drive the car without it, he fed the dog ice cream, etc. until it made its "move" <grin> then did some "mining" to rescue his hardware, quite the night.

    all the time

it really sucks when you cant find something, so when it comes time to need it, you buy it again, just to find it exactly where you left it

I'm convinced garages are haunted with Gremlins that take stuff and hide it from you. I can be standing in one spot, lay down a tool, not move, and reach back for it and it is GONE !

We have a standing joke at the shop that we are going to put some part away "where we know it will be later." You know how that goes. Last week I was looking for a part that was in a bright red box, I stared at every shelf and couldn't find it. My kid came and and went right to it. I know the Gremlins hid it then put it back.

I never lost stuff in my old garage, because it was scattered all over, but since I scattered it, I knew what it was. I moved to a new shop 3 years ago. Now I can't find my original seat belts (with the dated labels) for my OT '67 Corvette, my dial-back timing light, and a bunch of other stuff. The funny thing is that I was very careful to label all the boxes when I packed them. I'm sure they will show up some time, but until then??

  22. #1 I am so glad this happens to other people too! #2 My opinion is that there is some sort of black hole in everyone's garage that swallows tools & parts.

Ever put stuff in a "safe place"? I've got a lot of things stashed in a safe place and if I ever find that place it's gonna be like Christmas. I once lost a black 3/8" bolt for 2 days. It was standing on end on the black rubber bench mat, I must've looked right at it half a dozen times before I rediscovered it.

My parts are stored in my garage and 2 sheds, it gets real hard sometimes to remember what building they are in.

Always losing stuff, it's part of the game. I once drove for a couple days with the dipstick from my van laying on the front bumper behind the bumper gaurds...I sure didn't remember putting it there. My friend had a good way of not losing tools in his shop. He'd just drop them wherever on the floor. He had about ten of everything; when he needed a tool and was all out of fresh ones he'd sweep the floor into a big pile and stir the pile with the broom handle till the right tool popped up....his nickmane is Nitwit :D

My shop works like this, when i'm looking for 1/2 inch wrench can't find nothing but 9/16. When looking for 9/16 I find nothing but 1/2 inch. Time space warp or something.................

I worked on my truck from 9a till 11p Friday; I'd say I spent at least half my time trying to find the tool that I had just sat down.

I lose tools all the time, but I think my neighbor sneaks in and takes them and brings them back a hour later.
