I have been wondering for a while now how many are there out there running and driving at least semi regularly? Mild custom or otherwise. I certainly know that Matt Murray his his on the road and has some future plans for it. I have had mine 4 years now and have steadily been working on reliability and driveability. State roads around here are not the greatest. Getting to and from events is generally a white knuckle experience. With some mods completed I feel that I'm ready to do some suspension and steering mods to get better driveability. If there is anyone here that has done mods in that area I am all ears ? Mine is still transverse springs front and rear, but with good koni shocks. Vega steering box Disc brakes up front Vh44 Booster 16" modern steel multi-fit US wheels
At last.... new Auburn 16x6 radials.... should help the smoothness of the ride. the old firestones were flat spotted and wearing tin on tread. Blue protective coating will wash off fairly easily ... A snappy lunch date meant that cleaning the blue coating off will have to wait until I get home... Driveability upgrades are slowly happening as and money allows.
I have one of those 39 things. Let me know how you like the Auburns. I'm thinking about getting them for my roadster.
By comparison to what was on the car, I am impressed. I have driven them in the wet and dry and they run very solidly. The car sits so much better, doesn't track with wheel ruts. I am keeping an eye on tyre pressures at the moment while they settle in...as I have had to top them up twice since fitting.
When I bought this car it was missing the Mercury badges for the hood. That was four years ago. At first I wasn't too worried about it and I got used to them not being there. About 2 years ago I started to look for a set. I even considered casting my own from the one on the trunk. But deep down I wanted to find an original set. I tried here in Australia but could only come up with a set off a '40 Merc. They definitely were not right so the search went on. A few people said they were able to help as soon as they got some time to search though their garage to find them. The better part of a year and a half went by with no result at all. I reposted my thread on the HAMB which detailed what I was looking for. A fellow HAMBer answered the call and he had an original set he had removed from a '39 hood. Paid and shipped from the US to here. I was away at the time they arrived but I am pleased to say they cleaned up very well and are now on the car. They have really made a difference to the look of the car and I'm really pleased with the result. My thanks goes to @fordyford from Colorado for being patient with my awkwardness with Paypal. OzMer39
I'm learning the reputation hambers have for helping other hambers is legit. I actually got a lot of help from hambers before I even joined lol
Yep, HAMBers are definitely some of the best folks I have ever met. Hood emblems look great on there!
