Technical How many people stick weld frames?

    I built elevators for a few years. on one job we had an ex ironworker do all the stick welding in the big brackets that hold everything together. I have never seen such beautiful welds, I should have taken a picture.

    Years ago when I took a welding course, the instructor asked us if we knew what the various acronyms for welder types meant. When mig was mentioned, one fellow student said “maybe it’s good “. Even the instructor laughed at that one

    I have a 220 volt Miller Mig it maxes at 300 amps I use it for welding frames . But I do have a good old Lincoln 225 ARC welder for heavy old stuff

    The Model A and ‘32 cross members are reasonable thickness, so while riveting is traditional and that is what your cross members are, not many do that, stick weld would be the answer if that is what you’re most comfortable with.
    I always thought that gas is for thinner steel, such as exhausts and sheet metal.
