All you pinheads on here I don't know why I can't get a couple items striped for my 34. I've asked and get no responce.
Only have been doing it for a year now, so I'm not very good yet. Everything in my garage is striped, next comes the rest of the house Mick
Another striper checking in.Glad to see so many people interested in the craft. That is why one of my favorite posts on here is the Friday(more or less)Art Show.Never tire of seeing what you guys come up with week after week. I started fooling around with striping when I was about 11(1955)and after practicing on just about anything that would stay stationary for more than five minutes, striped my first car in 1957.A 1950 Mercury coupe.Wish I could have taken pictures of it but I didn't even own a camera then. Back then it was difficult because those who knew tended to be very secretive about ANYTHING regarding how it was done. I resolved that if and when I got to the point of being able to impart knowledge about striping, there would be no secrets. Today the atmosphere has changed dramatically.Granted there are still those people(thankfully in the minority)who still treat it as some sort of black art,but most are more than willing to share ideas and techniques.Witness the plethora(I LOVE that word)of books and videos on the subject. BUT.....As was said before, the ONLY way to get a real feel for what striping is all about is to attend a panel jam. Detroit is probably the largest one I have ever been to(almost TOO large)with more than 160 stripers in attendance last year. There are panel jams going on all over the country.A good place to find out about them is online at www.letterheads.com or a couple of magazines:Auto Art and A.M.A.L.(A Magazine About Letterheads).Unfortunately the last one is a subscription only deal but well worth the money just for the photographs. There is also www.handletterinforum.com There are also several stripers that hold workshops at various places around the country. If there is one in your area you might want to check it out. They usually aren't cheap but a lot of info can be gained through them. Anyway that is my rant;I hope to see a lot of you at Detroit this year.If you go,stop by and say hello to the guy with the funny hat. Ray
I've only been at it for a year or so and I still pretty much suck. I'm lucky to have some really good stripers in my area that have helped me out. Now I just gotta keep sawing logs so I can be a real pinstriper when I grow up.
i'm lucky enough to fall into this catagory.....its a fun way to make a living.....and you meet a lot of neat people.....even a few guys and ladies on here......i went to the autorama deal in 05......could not believe some of the stuff being done at that show.....top notch.....i do the charity deal at cincinnati .....so cool being beside the very guys that got you interested in striping to begin with .....dauber & reoll were 2 of the influences on me....lainhart is another ...along with joe beonke (sp....does the spencerian script so nice) then you have dan and josh shaw....dan was probably one of the first truck lettering guys to really talk to me like a person ...instead of a competitor....tim from brush works....another local that has some serious talent.... as for striping.....i generally will do a center line....and let the rest happen....i stripe fairly quick....depending on my mood....haha brandon
I've been playing around with one shot for a handful of years now. I don't have anywhere near the talent of some of the dudes on here, but I love doing it, even though the rest of life has gotten in the way lately. The stripers and artists on the HAMB have been one of my biggest sources of inspiration over the last couple years. I wonder if its possible to have too much talent in one place.
Yup I've been Known to pull a few lines, as for learning, we all are still learning. Anyone who thinks they know it all, has something very important to learn. Lots of talent here on the H.A.M.B., AND lots to learn.
Darin, I didn't know you were on the Hamb!!! Nice to see you here. Pauls car is looking awsome!! you did a great job on it as usual.
I paint lines, and will definatly be at the grandrapids and detroit panel jams. This shows are great the poeple wathcing you are amazed at how everything is completly symmetrical, well at least to them it is LOL
I am also one that practices laying lines with 1-shot although I feel I have a ways to go before I consider myself a striper.... Some exmples of my practice http://www.pinheadlounge.com/timstach Tim
I dabble from time to time. I've been doing it for almost 2yrs. My dad used to do it, and he passed all his stuff on to me. The main brush I use is older than I am. I try to get tips for any striper when I can. 00Mack is always willing to point me in the right direction. Here is some of my stuff.
I got my first brush as a teenager but never really did to much with it,just on and off until a few years ago when i really started gettin serious about it. Still got a long way to go! Here are a couple of pics of some tool boxes I have done. Keep up the great work everyone! Chad
Hey VanHook. If you live in Lebanon, that's pretty close to Carlisle, OH. You need to find Steve Lainhart and pick his brain. Vance
Man! There are allot of stripers here.......Ive improved very much since i last posted pics, i dont have any pics of the new stuff yet, but will post them when i get them.
Hey that's somthin i been meanin to ask, how does that pay? Is it something that a younger guy should do? Like rite now im 17, like say when im 20, maybe just taken off and travelin around and doin that.
I dabble. I've dabbled for 2 years. I have more of an appreciation than a skill. I can replicate desings, but have trouble coming up with my own. I'm better at lettering.
If you go to the sketchkult pinstripers index, and post that question, you should get a ton of good reviews, every body loves to use especially the scrolling brushes he puts out. I personally dont have one YET i use roth sig series, and grumbaucher.
I have been doin it for about a year and a half, when i first started looking at learning, is when my dad got a brush and tryed it, and i seen skratch in the #1 issue of osr, then my dad got to buisy for it and i got his brush.
