Chalk up another name for the book. I dabble in pinstriping. Still learning and lovin every minute of it!
striping is like writing a song or so many songs, if your a musician you know what i mean. there are so many ways to deliver (designs). its not knowing where im going next that keeps me loving it.
Kafkas will out scroll the jensen liners right out of the box, basically good for scrollwork, but I'm not really into scrollwork. Once in awhile a guy with a Honda Goldwing will ask for it.
I do really good,it is the only job I have.I pinstripe at least 30-40 cars in a 3 day car show.If you work hard at it,you can make good living at it.It has been the only wayI have been of making a living for about 15 years
Go for it. Be mobile ,get cards and a price sheet. The best place to start is in the bodyshops. And they always need a striper. You can learn alot by matching repair jobs. I stripe 15-30 complete cars a day and i stay at least 2 days booked in advance.I have two employees that wipe cars down and mix colors. I service over about 15 dealers and also have my own shop. And the pay is not that bad.
I've been known to throw down some paint once and a while. Only been at it for 4 years, still have a lot of learning to do...if I get time I'll try and post some pictures
its such a privilage to be on the same thread with you stripers, great talent, and just think of all the knowledge behind the keyboards. awesome
anthony i for one have watch you get better and better with time i,ve seen you copy some of the old timers when you were young to now have a style that is all your own i,m very happy that you put your tag on my 58 ford that has lines on it by some of the east coasts greats
On this board everyone is right? Just go to www.pinheadlounge.com and see how many names you recognize. I've been leaning more towards lettering lately and it shows when I do pull a line.
Yeah Carlisle is pretty close it would be cool to meet some local guys that have been doing it for awhile that I could learn from!
i am, you can catch me at those charity benifits at your local mid-west indoor shows. and anywhere else a person will pay for lines. SK
I'm here...and let's all meet at Detroit...and don't let Anthony fool ya..he's had LOTS of "best ever's"
Let's see now, 40 cars a day..... In an 8 hour day that would be one every 15 minutes. 200 cars a week.... I would really just like to watch and learn. I didn't realize there were that many cars waiting to be striped. I know that my back would be killing me after two in a day.
When I lived in Massachusetts,I serviced 6 dealers on a regular basis and maybe another 4 or 5 occasionally.I did all my work AFTER my regular job as parts manager of a dealership. On a good week,I would do maybe 8-10 cars. After 3 cars my back was complaining severely. The most I ever did in one sitting was 6.Of course I was in my 40's at the time.Twenty years before that I could paint around the clock;but then I didn't have a regular job. I know one striper(Doctor Ru) in this area who used to stripe the Prowlers at the factory when they were being produced and he did 14 of them a day(their total production). He was probably the fastest and most accurate straight line striper I've ever seen.
Here's some of my stuff I was wondering. How many people here can do long lines? I seems to me there is a lot of people calling themselves pinstripers that can't. Not saying that I can either but, its not like I'm trying to sell my services or anything. That reminds me. I did sell something once. I had this out at a swapmeet and some one offered me $50 for it. So I let him have it
At Rebel Run 2006 and Ducktail 2006, I did 103 vehicles in 2 weekends. I did 19 one day, and 22 the next, and so on. Ray has seen me work, he knows how fast I am. Most of the time, I average 40 vehicles in a 3 day weekend.
