ive got a 62 merc monterey. Thinking of paint soon but need to straighten her out. Driver side door little crease and dent and front right bumper minor crease. Whats realistic on price?
What can be done in Cali for a certain price isn't always the same in Denver or other parts of the country. You'd be better off checking with body shops in your area for a firm(er) price... R-
color change? requires major dis***embly to be done correct, are you doing any of the work? not knocking 4 doors, but since its a four door, Id suggest single stage no metallic, its pretty forgiving and you can sand out runs etc as you learn to shoot, you can prep the majority yourself, shoot the jambs and rehang all the sheetmetal then have a pro shoot the rest.
This is a perfect opportunity to learn how to do things like this yourself. If that doesn't interest you, I think you should find another board.
You can save a bunch of money and get a much better final job if you do a lot of the prep and strip down work yourself. If you remove all the trim, dewax the entire car, and repair some of the minor areas the body shop will only have to do the final DA work , make sure all the ****oos are fixed, then seal and shoot it. Even places like Maaco have some good stores (some better than others) and you can even sometimes ask that they use your paint if you feel it is a better quality one. I had our Mustang drag car painted by a Maaco years ago and it came out perfect, but I had taken it to bare metal and did the priming and prep work first. All they had to do was seal and shoot. Don
Tubman has the money quote on this one. As a bonus plus you will buy tools. MMMMMmmmmmmmmtooooooollls.
