I am changing the color of my top and wondered if there were any upholstery or top guys out there that can tell me how many linear yards I need to do the one in the picture attached. The car is not here yet but I want to get a jump on rounding up supplies. Material is 54" wide and sold by the linear foot. 1934 Chevy Master Thanks for the help and advise Smitty
If you had the measurements you would be better off. But lets assume the center is 36'' wide x 72'' long . That requires 2 yards. If your sides were only 18'' , one could be cut from the same 2 yards. Not likely to work that way. So figure the sides at 27'' and 72'' long , 2 more yards. The material has to run the exact same way front to back or the color and texture will look different. Now if the top has hand rolled binding it will take some strips 2'' wide x ever how long , no seams allowed in binding unless it can be centered below the rear valance. As a guess you may get by with 6 yards , if you make no mistakes. I would wait for the car and get measurements ,you may decide not to do it yourself or that it is fine for now. If you called me and asked me to order your material without measuring I would likely have you pay for 7 1/2 yards to be safe. See why having the car is important? Good luck Jack
Do you really want a canvas top? I have worked with canvas and prefer either the GM Vinyl material or the cloth. Canvas is stiff.
