how much coil should i cut?

    I have a 49 chevy sedan and i have two and a half inches of clearance when the wheel is crank all the way to the side so my question is how much coil can I cut from the front springs to get two inches drop?

    on my 52 chevy i torched mines and it worked great always ride around and let them settle first before you cut more

    You can cut up to 1 1/2 coils and no more, more then 1 1/2 will result in a ruff ride. So, 1 1/3 will get the two inches. Good luck.

    When you cut 1 inch off the spring you would think that the car would drop 1.65 inches because 1 inch of spring travel equals 1.65 inches of wheel travel.

    But if you have a 14 inch spring rated at 340 pounds per inch, and you cut it down 1 inch you have made it into a 366 pounds per inch spring.

    So cutting the spring 1 inch will drop the car about 1.125 inch.

    I made up the chart to show how much each cut will drop the car and how much it will stiffen the ride.
