I didn't want to jack another thread off in another direction but my curiosity got the best of me.

First let it be known that I respect the guys who bust their ****s getting the car just right as far as traditional hot rod goes. There is a lot more work getting every thing just right than there is gathering pieces to build a rod that may look great and function fantastically but doesn't run traditional running gear, engine, trans or electrical system.

That said: And I want honest answers. How many miles a day, month, week and or year do you actually drive your traditional cars?

I realize that there are several on here who only have one car and drive it every day and every where. But I am asking the somewhat vocal guys who dis the cars that don't have bias tires and knock late transmissions and drive trains.
    do you drive those cars
    daily

    weekly

only to cruise night or rod trots

only locally, I trailer it when I go more than 100 miles from the house.

everywhere and all the time that I am not headed to work in killer traffic.

All the time and I don't bat an eye at jumping in it for a cross country trip without a support vehicle following.

Uh, I run radials and steelies during the week and save the bias tires and Kelseys for special events. Psst, don't tell the guys in Austin.

Never, I trailer it behind the crew cab cause the wife won't ride in it w/o ac and she won't let me go off alone to rod trots. But I do hide the truck and trailer two blocks away and drive in. Besides that gears are getting hard to find for this toploader and the Bias white walls cost too much to run them any distance and wear them out.

I've averaged about 50 miles a week in my a-coupe since I got it... The only real problem I've had is the well do***ented ****** explosion. Other than some leaky 97's that just won't stop leaking, it's been reliable as hell...

I drive either the Buick or the wifes 54 Chevy daily back and forth to work, during the decent weather, to all shows/events/parties etc... less than four hours actual drive time (as the kids only can take so much exhaust noise at one shot) . I trailered from CT to Ohio two years ago, I felt like a ****, but I couldn't fit enough stuff in the trunk of the 54 for a family of four for a week-the Suburban has much more room.
Rain doesn't bother me but I avoid driving in snow with them and no heater makes winter driving unrealistic. I run bias plies on both cars, but they have auto trannies, although the Buick is getting ready for a LaSalle sideshift soon.
The Buick runs Hurst slicks, 4.10 Locker, 3,500 stall convertor, dragshocks front and rear, solid cammed, roller rocker, 2x4 carb'ed, 401 Nailhead with a generator, no wipers etc...this car has seen many a out of state trip to see bad bands in worse bars and late night rides home with more exhaust in the car than out the back.
The Chevy was built for slightly longer/easier driving for the wife, 327/th350, 3.36:1 posi '55 rear, alternator. Still bias ply, vacuum wipers, no heat but does have a cheapo radio with cd player.
I usually get 12-15k between the two cars every year. I drive them every chance I have.

I would drive one of my trucks everyday everywhere if it was my choice. But, my wife and I had a son who is now one year old and since he was born, his safety concerns have forced me to drive my modern ride with car seat, seat belts, airbags, good heater and all that most of the time because I have to carry him around a lot. That is really the only thing forcing me to do it. He is well worth the sacrifice and I don't think twice about it or have any regrets. My safety and comfort is one thing, but his is an entirely different matter. Other than that, it would be as close to 100% as possible and I drive around 5K a year or so. With that said, I still will always have a modern wheels around as an option for whatever reason.

i drive my 53 everywhere, i only drive my 2000 to work, and only cause its far. its not exactly a hotrod, but for the most part its all stock and mostly original. in the ten years ive had the car, ive probably put 100,000 miles or more on it. its had a knock the whole time that never gets any louder, and nothing major has ever broke, master cylinder is probably the worst thing thats ever went out on the car, but i think its time for a a rebuild now.i dont wanna break a rod and destroy my block

We drive ours all the time. The shop truck almost everyday unless it's frosted over in the mornings when I leave out (no heat). It has radials and power steering, but I use it for everything. If I want to go anywhere or haul old parts we just load up and go no matter how far. The '49 Ford has bias plys, no heat, lexan windows, no wipers and gets the Hell Drove out of it.

i couldnt help but notice that most of the "idrive it everyday" are from warm sunny climes...different story here.i built my av8 RPU in 01 and since its been to bonneville in 03 with the rolling bones guys and most of the northeast runs with roundtrip mileage up to 1000. i try to crank it up 1 or 2 x aweek if weather allows but i dont consider it a daily driver....id like to add that i also have a blown sbc powerd duece and yes it has radials but the "trad" ride is the ride of choice for me.

  15. Once a week, occasionally twice in winter.

    Last two Saturdays, 25* F when I left the house @ 0730.

    Summer, 3-5 times a week.
Sometimes short errands, sometimes 50-100 miles one way.

'Don't drive it enough. Now that all my old buddies have died off I doon't go to the tavern as often. Between there and the hardware store was the norm for a long time. My 70 year old back doesn't like much over an hour and a half at at a time. Close-in shows I try to make (Indy Good Guys, Cluster Busters 4th of July picnic, James Dean, etc). The car is a '32 5 window with a 286"' Flathead and all early Ford driveline. It's probably the 2" chop that kills me-having to be hunched over all the time. I was better off before I got hearing aids-now I hear every odd noise and when I get home I'm a nervous wreck from hearing all those old Ford sounds.l

i could go out and by myself a new car if i wanted but to everybody's dismay i drive my 51 ford every day.... rain, shine, snow, ice (yes ice and bias plys really **** on ice) i will not own a new car nor will i ever entertain the thought of owning a new vehicle!!!! i can not bring myself to buying something that loses 8 grand after you sign your name. come to think about it i have never seen a radial tire that looks as good as a Firestone wide white..........

I don't really count as my car isn't a custom, but I put 10,000 on my 54 Chevy the last year.

Just about every weekend I go for a 20-50 mile ride. That's why I have the car in the first place.

Well,I drove my sons Shoebox back and forth to work for a year, til my Merc was done. Then i've driven my Merc to the Primer Nats twice,San Diego once,Hollywood twice, probably about 15k miles since I got it. That's when it's not leaking something,LOL!! Logged a few miles on the back of a flatbed too,HA HA HA!
My boss won't let me drive it to work anymore, since their insurance covers me while i'm driving at work.

Weekly 7 months out of the year, weather permiting. No top or heater and just a ****pit cover on a fenderless '28 A Sport Coupe converted to roadster w/flathead. Being in Minnesota that means getting caught in the rain often, but its no different than owning a motorcycle in this state. People are amazed I drive it as much as I do, but as my dad always said "If you don't use them (cars) your just saving them for someone else."

Usually drive it on Saturdays, weather permitting.

In the summer of '06 I put about 5k miles on it... Drove from Phoenix, AZ to Oklahoma, then to Iowa for Goodguys, to Arkansas, back to Oklahoma then to Texas.

All of the "I drive it a lot's" have spoken but the "I dont drive it that much's" are not posting.

Ill be honest with ya. I got it running, Im lazy, and never put in the side or rear window. I dont drive either of them in the Rain or extreem cold. I need to work on them more or quit being such a wuss I guess.
