Is there any chance we could ban these type of posts? It is such a subjective question. I would never tell the moderators how to run this board but I think there are a lot of members who'd like to see these go away. Plus they're a waste of hamb space. Just my .02. -stick

Well,I kind of like them. I realize that a lot of it's opinion and there is a lot of regional difference. But a lot of stuff posted is unusual and there just aren't a slew of places you can get an idea of the value or practicality of your project.

Certainly not any less interesting or valuable that other posts on this board regarding Ebay, accidents or fairly local events. (I don't mind those, either.)

Good point, don't read them if you're not interested. Those posts are relevant to rods and customs and they're helpful to other HAMBers. "how much is this grille shell worth" could be just as relevant as "how do I narrow this grille shell". People need to know how much to pay for things/sell things for and I'm more than happy to offer my opinion.

I know what you mean. Kinda' like: if you don't like what's on TV, change the channel or turn it off. But it's gotten a little out of hand. Case in point: the "AMC Hornet" post. -stick
O.K. time to kill this post too.

I may get that cast in bronze.:D

  10. Yeah, but what I might be willing to pay is kind of based on what others are paying for similar stuff and why people (myself included) ask the question, "What do you think it's worth". This board is for information and sometimes my lack of knowledge in the area of what an older car is worth is lacking and I like to hear what others are paying or would pay for something I might want to buy. And I'd rather someone would just not post a response to the question then post a "What ever your willing to pay" response. Just my 2 pennies.

  11. most of the what are these worth posts are BS lame and kinda ignorant. I have seen maybe one evry 6 mo on a realy worthy part. That is rare and kool to check out and informative to find out about. But most are common items that are is easy to determine a value for.

I wish those posts would be banned so I wouldn't have to EVER SEE SOMEONE RESPOND WITH: "ITS WORTH WHAT SOMEONE IS WILLING TO PAY".

Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick, I ****ing hate it when people write that.

They always write it like its so damn intelligent too. Like DUH! Of course its worth what someone is willing to pay. Thats not giving any information.

That statement is right up there with "IT RAN WHEN I PARKED IT".
OF course it ****ing ran when you parked it. DID IT FLY HERE?!?!?!?

To the people who write: "Its worth what someone is willing to pay" I SAY...**** YOU!
I hope thats not too overt. :D

Some people getting into this world of Hot Rods and Customs are not as knowledgeable as others , you should respect that. Remember where you came from, you too had questions and was once a newbie getting into cars. Now that your not so ignorant and a know it all, people think they can tell people not to be so dumb... doesn't make sense. Everyone learns differently than others and not all at the same speed, some even learn faster than others. You should never bag or put someone down for asking a question they don't know or is clueless about. Don't forget that was you one time in your life getting into hot rods and customs. I thought this was a place to help people, and share info ... not to show how smart you and how knowledgeable you are than the next person in this lifestyle:(
something that might be so relevent to you may not be ...to a beginner.
can you think back to when that beginner was you and you wanted to learn something?

I say we ban OT ******** like...
"I just had a baby so someone praise the fact that I have sperm and my wife has a uterus."
Parts pricing is a valid topic about vintage automobiles.

  20. I find them to be generally useful. The "What is it worth?" question is not far from the "Is this valuble or rare or wanted or should I just toss it?" questions. It sometimes takes a few questions to get an understanding of what you might have.
Some rare stuff also has little corresponding value because the market is also correspondingly small. I have come to realize that the stuff I am really familiar with is only a small portion of what goes on here so it's definately worth my while to read this stuff

I agree that sometimes the question seems a bit coy or precious or dumb***ed or whatever but you don't have to read them. Or if you read them nothing says you have to respond in any way.

Personally speaking, I've got a bunch of NOS parts that I'm busy figuring the value of. I know that I've sometimes sold things for too little and paid too much for others. More free flowing exchange of information will improve that sort of situation.

And beside the point is that the HAMB has a representive population of notorious cheapskates who don't want to pay anything for anything. That old joke about "I'll take it for free if you cover the shipping." rings true occasionally.:D

Did you read this far? Congratulations. You may now stop.

i agree with both sides, but i think the bad side is its kinda sleazy...like "im not going to post this in the cl***ifieds section and possibly get ripped by undervaluing my item..." so its almost like the people posting it here under the guise to get info or learn something, but actually with motives to get PM offers. ya dig?

btw....i got these cheeseburgers...what do y'all think they are worth?? lol jk

  22. I totaly agree with the fact that not every one knows and am not bagging anyone.I am saying there is a line and common parts or cars are not included. We all have buddies we pal around with that can answer these ???'s...So if you post a ??? like that your gonna get the ****YOU answer of what someone will pay. Sorry thats the old hamb at***ude I got my *** tore into when I joined this place. They said if you dont like it theres the door I grabbed a wrench. Its kool that New guys are here to learn I love that. Most of these posts dont need experts or a post on the hamb to find out so they seem mundane.

    John,
just because you got your *** torn on this forum back in the day when you first joined here doesn't mean you have to p*** that same tradition onto others who may be new here. Just because something is traditionional doesn't mean it's always the right way to handle things that you don't agree with, maybe you were taught the wrong way to handle a positive situation that you took as a negitive insult or a waste of your internet time. maybe there are people out there that their hotrod buddies don't even know the answers your searching for, maybe they don't even have any buddies to hang out with that share this same p***ion for cars. this is not just a small scene or click... the internet has made this a global community. things you view here in your local circle are way different than across the country, even across the seas:) But this site brings us all together and i thank Ryan and it's moderators for making that happen, plus all those who contribute to keep this website funded and running smoothly. Because of this site i have met new friends all over the country and even in Australia who share my same p***ion for traditional hotrods and i think that's awesome. So whether i ask a dumb price question on this site or if i meet these people in person and ask the same question, it's still going to happen because ....i'm not afraid to LEARN!

I love Antiques Roadshow! How can you not like some old lady finding out her yard sale picture is worth 100K?

Anyway, I'll go back to "if you aren't interested, don't read it". At least these posts are about cars. There's a lot of personal and OT stuff here, too and sometimes I read it and sometimes I skip it.

Point is,if you start getting stuff banned because you don't like it, then soon topics you like will be banned because someone else doesn't like that. Free speech,censorship-all that messy topic. I think Ryan and his team do a very good job of keeping things on a general course and letting the dumb-*** subjects fall by the wayside on their own by self -determination.

I always look at them just for the grins that I get. It is a stupid exercise even with pictures. My personal opinion is usually low when compared to the "experts" that spit out figures for parts that they can't examine in their hands.

Most of us cruise Ebay from time to time but that't like window shopping on Rodeo Dr. in Beverly hills. I'm a Kmart shopper.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a "blue book" for prices.

One thing I've learned...you won't be branded for life if you over pay for something that you really want. I average them out with the freebee scores that I fall into from time to time.

Remember lots of the experts that reply don't know much more than you do. It's just a chance for them to respond to a post based on a sale a buddy made for something that looked similar to the part in question. Lots of times they have no clue as to what make a particular rare part expensive.

I don't know if they should be banned, but if you are asking the question take the responses with a big grain of salt. A rust free Model A coupe body will bring a lot more in New York than it will in Texas.

Why not just have post them in the Cl***ifieds with the prefix "WIW"?

    Example--"WIW: 2002 Honda Rear Spoiler" :D

    Tucker

  29. A comparison of topics:

    A post about what it's worth ?

    vs

A post about tatoos on arms and wearing long sleeved shirts to work?

Which is more important to what we're doing here??

To me it is as relevant as the "What kind of music do you listen to in the garage posts" And those posts don't bother me really. Just using it as an example. I can see how it is irritating to you if it is some ******** everyday part though that is commonly sold at swaps or on ebay. I just think it is hard to say you can post this somewhat off topic subject, but not this one. Anyway just my thoughts.
