so i'm looking for a new car that i can do some work on while i drive it, just for a project. and i stumble upon this car...its kinda cool to me..but is too extreme on the chop?

my question is. how much is too much chop on shoebox? give me your thoughts on the lines?

would you buy it and finish it if the price were rite?
now the car is bagged, but not layed out in these pics.

Never chopped a car so take this with a grain of salt...but it does not flow right to me...follow it from hood over roof line and down to trunk....it's not smooth... personal opinion...but the great chop jobs I have seen...the chop accentuates the natural lines of the car....this feels too low..to me...
Like I said, I never chopped a car...don't want to **** talk someone else's work...I'd buy it and turn it into a roadster....like fab the roof into a removable cover for the back seat....I dunno...just kickin around an idea

i like it. its kind of a radical chop but it could look good with some minor adjustments

Too much for my taste. As stated by mike1951 the lines are not smooth. The roof line taper is too drastic and make the body of the car look more boxy than it actually is. It almost looks like 2 different cars to me. Its like it should be a fastback but isnt. On the other hand, I only like what I like. Just an opinion.

way too much, and someone did not know what they were doing when they chopped this car. notice how halfway through the roof, it looses its crown and goes flat.

My opinion ... proportions really got sideways on this one. If you could buy it cheap enough and the rest of the body is solid, it might be worth grafting a top from a doner/parts car to save it. There was recently a HAMB thread where this was successfully accomplished on a shoebox with a butchered chop.

It's chopped more than I usually like but a guy might be able to fix it. I think this one is chopped pretty close to the same amount but the lines are a lot better.

I think you have to be willing to do the work to it to make it right and not just another so so chopped shoebox before you decide to buy it or p*** on it and look for one that looks more right than wrong.

No, when I go back and look, I think it would take a new top and more than a little work to make it right. It has too much of that slant chop looking going for it. See where on the green one the lines on the top and bottom of the door window frame are parallel and the roof flows out towards the rear of the car while on the one you are looking at the top window frame slants back and the roof drops into the package tray area instead of flowing back into the decklid.

    too much less is more

  13. radical chops are great in theory. untill you realize they don't look good from any angle. as some one who has chopped a few cars, that one seems pretty rough in every aspect.

  14. Again, like the others, this is my opinion. If you look at the rear window area the window, once installed, will appear to "bubble" out above the sheet metal and will obstruct the "flow". It doesn't look like the chop is finished so it would be possible to fix it, but if you're buying a car to chop I'd just buy a stocker.

I guess you would have to weigh the pros and cons. Does having it already set-up suspension-wise make up for the chop? Is the suspension quality work? Does it run? How well? Clean ***le?

I'd say if everything else is a plus, and you have confidence in fixing the chop...or if you can live with it...then purchase it. Make yourself happy. Remember it's YOUR hard earned money (use it when YOU need it...I hate those commercials). Spend it on what you want.

EDIT: I forgot to answer the question. No I don't necessarilly think that is too much chop. It is just the wrong "style" chop.

It doesnt flow right in my opinion and the back window looks to low as well... if you have the money and time to fix the chop and really want the car then go for it. If not theres plenty of cars out there good luck and let us know what you decide to do!

I've seen a lot worse chops. Since it needs finishing anyway, I think it can be salvaged if the $$ is right. But you have to be into a severe chop. It'll look a whole lot better with the suspension done up right.

He came down on the price because that car has been for sale for a "long time". I saw it on a trailer at the conroe swap i believe. Is the driver side still unfinished? When I saw it, it was half way into the chop. I was wondering why he was selling it half way cut up. That chop to me is too much. I wonder if it would work though if you sectioned the body?

    I'm conservative.

4 up front, 5 out back.

Anything more, looks out of place.

  28. I remember this car catching my eye at the round up from about 20 feet out. I don't want to bash on anybody but the closer I got the more dissapointed I was. It was just so thrown together and hacked up that the whole car looked like it was built in a weekend. Granted it did grab my attention, but for all the wrong reasons when I got up close.

I agree with the others; it's chopped way too much in back and has lost its roof crown. You'd need to replace the roof. If you can and are willing to replace the roof yourself for a re-chop and the price is right, go for it.
If the chop work is somewhat butchered, how is the workmanship on the rest of the car;mechanicals, suspension, air bag system, etc???

Consider starting with a solid stock running shoebox and chop it while you're enjoying driving it. It'll take more time to "un-do" someone's work than starting with a fresh stock body.

The ch***is/mechanicals would have to be "***s" and the price really right for me to tackle the roof issue. Maybe wait a few more months for the price to drop or offer him a low ball figure.

Repeat of some of the above.
If you can see out of it safely and you like it, and if the price is right...buy it and enjoy.
I do agree however on the lack of flow..
    Good luck !!
