Any place from a couple of grand to over 10. You aren't providing enough detail on the condition of the car to be any closer on the estimate.
Hey alexsteelers, You lookin to get a car painted? I'm local and could come take a look at the car. It is impossible to quote just from a picture. PM me if you're interested.
how good of a job is it? And price definately depends on prep work needed. I would say 7k for that 56 if it was ready to go, minus cleaning/taping. And that would not be a perfect job, but it would be a damn nice high end driver job.
I wish some of the people that we get to give estimates on their cars would read this post. It always starts "I want a show car" and ends with "It's going to cost that much!! It's only paint!" I guess our time ISN'T worth money.
It may just be a crappy picture, but it looks like a crappy paint job. You could get it done at Maaco for around $600. Of course, if your car needs anything other than wet sanding for prep (& you want it done right), it could run into thousands or tens of thousands. In other words, no way to price a paintjob without seeing the car. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" Pardon my driving; I'm reloading.
Yea, the break-even point can hover over $1500 bucks - and that's if you aren't expecting bodywork do be done and you're using basic paint systems. Once you start talking body & paint, that changes everything. Now the break-even point has time, materials, overhead & profit issues that compound. The guy who does the ONE thing that really makes a nice car...uhh, nice, is the one guy who gets all the shit for asking to be paid for doing it..... Think about it like this: A 70 Chevelle with a great drivetrain and a shitty (or so-so) paint job is just a Chevelle. It might sell for 15k just because it has the potential and is a solid car. Same car with great body & paint work would sell for two or three times that 15k. And the guy who paints it will still hear shit about his wages. People just want to have it all, and pay nothing for it. Well - you can want in one hand and shit in the other.....fill in the blank yourself.
It's tough to estimate anything without seeing, but here is an example to go off of: As an example of cost of paint, the last car I took to a bodyshop for paint was for a '62 Lincoln Continental. The car started out with original paint (pic attached) and was straight. Had a couple flaws (gouges, dings, etc) but didnt require any major body work. I took the car to metal. Body shop did minor work (I call it minor, as I obviously cant respect the work it takes to get long body lines like this perfect,) paint (I asked for original / new condition-- which is how it turned out,) and put the trim all back on. They also did the color sand / buff at the end. The job took a tad over a month and turned out showroom condition. The charged me $6,000 for the job. Paint shop was Al Martinez Paint and Body in Orange County, CA. -scott noteboom
