I've got the uprights apart on my '55 Caddy and could feel a little play in them before but the fit seems within tolerances in order to allow grease to get in there. I didn't find any info in my shop manual about acceptable tolerances.

    The kingpins are 0.9205"-0.9215"
    The bushings are 0.9215"-0.9230"

I measured from multiple points around each part for the range. I took the kingpin shaft and hit it with emery cloth on the grungy parts and polished it. I did the same with the kingpin bushings.

Please let me know your thoughts. NAES

I believe that state of Pa inspection states you can have 1/2" of movement at the outside of the tire. I always thought that was a lot. I may be wrong, It has been a long time since I read that.part of the book.
