Mine is a tiny turn of the last century carriage house that is barely 1 1/2 cars. My press lives in there along with a thiry year collection of stuff hanging from every conceivable stud and rafter. Elpolacko once described my shop as being "so small you had to walk outside to change your mind!".
4000' and I had to get rid of 3 cars and still don't have enough room.....na..it's not bad but more room would be cool....
You can see for just getting my license and stuffing this car in here, about two years ago. There is room longways but not much on the sides.
When I started building my A in 1970 I had a 50'X80" backyard and tarps. A year later I bought a house and built a 24'X28" garage. No insulation or heat. But it had a roof, concrete floor and 50 amp 220 volt electrical. Sixteen years later I bought a place on 2.5 acres. Built a 40'X64" shop with 12' walls, insulation, overhead radiant heat, and 100 amp 220 volt electrical. After moving in all the equipment from the old shop, adding a 2 post lift, a 4 post lift, and 2 more cars, I need more room.
35x45 and it's always full. About twice a year I'll move old stuff to the attic and shed. Still full need more room.. This is a couple years ago. It's way more packed now.. Cars are bleeding into the driveway, side and back..
My son installing a cam set in my cramped garage a couple years ago. Cleared the other bay out since then. Better'n doin' it outside!
I got a 24x40 shop. Sad thing is I needed to change the oil in the wifes rig and the shop is full of customer cars so I had to change the oil outside in 37 degree cold weather. Something is wrong with that.
I built my hotrod outside under a easyup.stop complaining. Now that there's a metal carport there I cant do much so I took my next project to my buddies barn on his ranch to lift the cab off
I can confirm this. Chips garage would have been the perfect backdrop for a late '40s/early '50s photo shoot. It's got a really cool vintage vibe that would be nearly impossible to duplicate. It's got an interesting history as well, dating back to a time right after the Earth cooled. Steve's comment is awesome, but true!
What's everyone's opinions on the engineered buildings. Like the steel carpets with sides on them. Everyone has a different name for them. I'm in a two car garage with tools and 4 door biscayne. Thinking about a decent size metal building shop.
Heck...when I was on the lookout for a car, i had to measure it to make sure it fit in my single car garage built in the 50's. Needless to say , no Caddies for me! I've stopped chasing the neighborhood cats out because at least they keep the rats away...but it sure beats a car cover and a dirt driveway!
