I know a guy that has a older restored/hot rodded 1936 Ford 1/2 ton. It has a 51 Merc Flathead, 39 trans, and a Columbia 2 speed rear axle, Ch***is eng drop axle. Has a lil rust starting on rockers and that's about it. Full fendered, gold in color with ugly **** slotted wheels. He priced to me. What's it worth? Just looking to buy, have a lil fun and resell later. Don't want to get upside down int it though.

    Thanks,
    Ty

I only have 1 major issue. I'd have to borrow some of the money. Not sure how they do it on a old car/truck. I have a A+ credit rating and only my house pymt. It wouldn't be a issue on affordablity, just only if the return is great enough.

My advice is not to borrow money to buy a hot rod,,you never know what might come up and you get in a situation that you are forced to sell and you can really dig yourself a financial hole. HRP

your lucky to break even on these things.

  11. I borrowed money to buy my 34. I don't regret it, as it got me into this when it did.

The flip side, is that it took me 2 years longer than planned to pay off the loan. 'Life' came up, and for a while, I was only making the interest payments.

I wouldn't do it again though. Cash in hand for me in the future.

Without pics hard to give a accurate appraisal, shoot low if you get it even better if you don't your not borrowed out extensively on something hard to flip.

Borrow oney for everything, it is the American way and without loans the poor bankers would starve!!

On another note, the only way I ever would borrow for a "play toy" is at very low rates and if I could put at least 50% down. i always like to make sure I can sell quick and pay off the balance if something pressing pops up, even if i have to take a loss.

That's how i feel too. Just curios on if it was and easy flip. I have had good luck doing the 120 note things with my bank and never have gotten burned yet, but these were only 5-7000 $ deals. I'll get over there and get some pics.

What am I missing? I would be around $4000, if it had a good ***le and I could drive it home. So where's the other $10,000?

For instance, you can't get your money back out of a wrecked hot rod.

    Definitely ain't you,,

Like P.T. Barnum was so often misquoted as being the author of, "There is a ****er born every minute",,actually it was David Hannum,,( the history will have to wait for another day )

I guess he's just looking for someone with more money than common scene. HRP

When i first looked at the truck, he told me 12 grand. The guy that owns it is a dang good guy, but since it's out in the open and not in the shed i agree with ya all. Not worth that kind of money for sure. I did offer him $4500 before he told me what he wanted though. I felt i was close to what i thought it's worth.

Yep. You were close at $4500; high but close. I like the truck but suspect the paint is holding it together.

Don't borrow money to buy a hot rod. I know a guy who took out a home equity loan to help buy a car. A short time later he encountered a serious medical issue and had to sell at a loss to get the loan repaid. Hot rods should be a hobby.
