Been spending a shit load on this one .Wonder what it may have cost new I think i have exceeded that three fold . My son wanted to fix one up damb 6 parts are not cheap Im going to oklahoma to get new 6 tomorrow. Is the thing gonna keep up in traffic its a 170 hot water 6!! any thoughts on making it run better!! the little turd said no v8!!
In 1964 the old Falcon could be had for $2499.00. 2 door post, six, 3 spd and heater. My grandfather sold a shit load of them in Weatherford! Are you looking for a rebuilder six? I got a 170-200 out of a '64 Falcon in Cleburne withg a 3speed for cheap.
Might be cheaper to build a time machine, then go back and bring home a shit load of them. Oh, and go back to 32 for me while you're at it.
If you want to hop up that falcon while keeping it a six, you could maybe swap in a 200 (same size as the 170 outside, 30 more cubes and 2 more main bearings inside). For more ideas on getting more performance out of that thing, there's a great bunch of folks over at the FordSix.com forums. For some great performance parts for the Falcon Six one source that you really want to check out is Classic Inlines. They've developed a trick aluminum head to replace that gawdawful stock head with its integral cast-on log intake manifold. It's a bit pricey, but it's one way to really wake up that little six.
I'm reminded of this Falcon advertising campaign: "Wife need a good Falcon? Bring her in and we'll dicker!"
I worked at a Ford assembly plant in '67, and we built Falcons and Fairlanes on the same line. I can't remember how much they cost, but by '69, when the Maverick came out, I bought a Grabber, with the big 6 (250) and auto for $2600.
Yes for god's sake put in a 200 a world of diff power wise. The later six's used a vacumm & mechinal advance dizzy ,a worth while up grade.
Wow Terry, the MSRP must've been the topic of the day for you yesterday, haha. The Falcon REALLY IS starting to piss you off. And for all you guys......His son turned out alright, he may have passed on a V8 (becuase he already has a gas guzzler, and wants something he can afford to drive for school).....but atleast he isn't working on a Civic. Thats my .02
