How much will a Mustang 2 lower a 46 Chevy?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mike in Tulsa, Apr 24, 2011.

  1. I know there are different Mustang 2's, but say a TCI or Heidts with 2" dropped spindles. After doing some measuring I think it needs to come down about 7" to ride height. Stock, the car is sitting 13" from the bottom of the rockers to the ground. The frame is 1-1/2" lower than the rockers so that would give me 4-1/2" frame clearance at ride height. Of course the rear suspension will come down accordingly and I will be using air ride. I'm just in the planning stage right now and trying to put a plan together. Thanks!

Mike, that was the distance my 54 was too I believe. Im running Must II with 2' drops up front. The Chassis Eng crossmember sets on the ground when aired out and the frame rails are within 1/2 off the ground which puts the rockers about 2' from ground as in avater pic. It runs about 5'off the ground at ride height I think too.

I have a 47 aerosedan with Heights 2" dropped spindles and I cut almost a coil out of the springs. The front bumper is about 3 1/2 inches off the ground. I have been driving it this way for over 10 years----40K miles. BUT, your tires will hit on the fenders if you try to turn hard, you have to be careful pulling in anywhere with an incline, you will eat asphalt from time to time and you probably will have to remove the grease fitting on the bottom of the steering arms so it doesn't scrape on the inside of your rims.

After alll these years, I am probably going to raise mine back up a couple of inches. You can see my aero sedan in the classified section on HAMB. "47 chevy aerosedan"

Ask the manufacturer. Then there is no guesswork.

I could have gone lower.. with dropped spindles. or by jacking the spring pocket adjusters in the CE crossmember UP.. I didnt and felt it was plenty low..

I doubt you need more that stock spindles and a C/E crossmember. I wouldnt think dropped spindles would be a good idea..

  7. Wow, that lowered it quite a bit. Thanks for the pics.
