I'm just trying to get a general idea for future references. This wouldn't be a professional shoot... meaning, I couldn't offer much in the first place, and I'm no pro. It would be a secluded shot away from the public eye somewhere. How much would you charge as the car owner- for a day's shoot. Maximum 3-5 hours. You would be on site of course. Just an idea. Thanks for the feedback fellas. --------------------------------- Pictures would be used for personal art shows, printing sales?? no big magazines or anything. it's just a thought of mine that's why I'm asking.
I would be honored is someone was interested in photographing my car...but at least gas money, right?
hhmm I would want to know what was going to happen to any pics and I would want a contract stating as such. If you want to do it for fun then just do it. If the photog is making $$$ then you should get some too.
My Mercury was used for a clothing catalog. I got $700. for the whole day, plus breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a room to stay in.
My truck was photo'd for an upcoming girlie calander and for ad promos for a certain drivetrain company.......I did it for free.....I was just honored that my pile was chosen.....
I usually offer copies of all the photos taken and specify that they can only use them for personal use only. I get what I need and they get free professional shots of their ride. Win/Win.
For magazine shoots, the owner gets nothing but the honor of having thier car in the magazine, and the photographer gets very little pay and has to chase down the magazine for the pennies they owe him/her for weeks. The photographer gets the run-around on the phone trying to beat down the small amount of cash-ola the mag owes him, hoping he will eventually give up and do the work for free, all the while trying to make the photographer feel guilty for even asking. Meanwhile, the general public thinks the photographer is rich because he has so much fancy equipment and showers almost daily, not knowing of course that most times he's broke as Hell and just wants some iced tea. The good gigs pay well, but have nothing to do with cars, and may be photographing gormet dog treats for lesbians (true story), who pay well and wear comfortable shoes. There is no money in magazines. Everyone thinks good photography is free. Digital killed film. Everyone is a photographer. Time for tea. What was the question? Spike(TM)
"....The good gigs pay well, but have nothing to do with cars, and may be photographing gormet dog treats for lesbians " and thats coming from a douchebag..
must be making at least a little since you took my baby from me yesterday . and yes, the pups are still enjoying the treats you brought over from the lesbian dog treat company.
I was asked by a photographer to use my 53 Chevy for a photo shoot for a local rapper that was going to be featured in The Source.....I guess its a rap magazine. Anyway, it paid $300 for about 3 hours, plus I got copies of the pictures.
...and my buddies wonder why I quit doing commercial jobs to shoot high school seniors and weddings! That is unless somebody's uncle got a D40 for father's day, in which case my services will no longer be required becauase it "cost over $500, so it came with a nice zoom lens".
I never payed someone to photograph their car, I usually charge them, only $75.00 for some hot rod glamour shots. The get a 16x20 and proofs, I keep the rights and negatives. Unless, it's for a mag, then I won't charge. But if you just want some shots for your portfolio/sales, go to shows. 98% of my print sales are of car show pictures. Just be conscious what you are shooting.
This has been my experience, exactly (more applause) heavy on the lesbian dog treats (yet even more applause). Good work, Spike.
You sold your car down the river Joe, but at least it found a great home! I promise I won't let it catch fire.. Spike
I would do it for plenty of dark ale along with some good fish and chips, but I am in no way a professional or even considered an amateur photographer... so dont read this. mmmm...fish and chips....
