What is the going price for a real nice Model A frame with no cracks or bends etc...? I have been between 300-450 is that the range? Are frames selling for that price?
A bare frame? Even a real nice super clean one only brings $200 in my world, and half-ass ones do $50 or maybe $100. I've seen running, driving complete stocker frames sell for $1000 with all the suspension and engine still on them. I'm not 100% sure why you're asking, but if you're shopping for one, keep shopping, there are way better deals out there. If you're selling one, you're probably priced too high.
shit I got one free a couple years ago that had been a running, driving stocker a couple years before that... guy just wanted it out of the yard, no motor, trans, rearend or springs, but all the rest was on it yet, steering, front end, bumpers, brake rods, exhaust pipe... I posted it for sale for $300 willing to take $200 and ended up building a pickup with it. Came with a decent hood, too, those do usually bring $100.
If anyone whom says they are easy to find and cheap NEEDED one and was waving $100/$200 around they would come up very short quickly. Sure if you want junk they are not hard to find. If you don't want a frame that is pitted, cut, bent, welded on or someones abandoned abortion project they aren't that available. A NICE, clean frame is easily worth $200/$300. Sure there is LOTS of JUNK out there guys will sell for less but you get what you pay for. I hauled a nice one out of the bush recently from under a junk A fordor and INSTANTLY got $200 for it without even trying to sell it and then I had sellers remorse (and stitches in my hand). I had another very nice frame I sold at a local swap meet to a discerning gentleman for $300 and he was not hesitant to lay out the cash. I have not seen a nice one available right in front of me since. I'd like to have a nice frame and would give $200/$300 in a second. Since tomorrow is Saturday maybe someone can go out and locate a "good" and not from a buddy, $100 A frame and lets see what you get?
This is a tough question to ask too since I'm on the east coast and more importantly I'm in New England which gets beat up probably more than any area in the US. So there is a difference between a 80 year old frame in New England than on the West coast. I have been looking through the classifieds and 300-450 was the average....DO they sell for that? Thats a different quetsion
Exactly, like real estate location means a lot. I can't remember what I got for the last A frame I sold, or when I found the last one. If you find a good UNpitted one I'd say $300.00 or less was a good deal, another $100.00 or so will get it sandblasted. Consider drive time and gas on the ones that do turn up.
i just bought one from a restorer guy..$100....no pits...star and numbers plainly visible......no pitting under the spot where the engine mounts were, which is generally over looked...in michigan, this was the steal of the year..cut off the rear spring pocket and sold it for $125..made a proffit and still had a cherry front section that i stuffed under Lil Beast, my topolino...i got another one, torn front section where the motor mounts rust out,,busted when the guy pulled it out of a collapsed barn..it has visible star and numbers also..and had all stock brake rods and the rear spring, axel and wheels, rear bumper brackets and fender brackets...$20....i'm going to use it and the old front section from the one that was under the topo in the begining and make a good frame from these 2 for a 5 window A i been collecting peices for while hunting for topo stuff...sometimes ya just find too good of a deal to pass on..the frame i started with under the topo was bought at a local swap for $150..by a friend for $150..had 14" cut off the rear and was badly pitted at the motor mount plating...but came with a very nice stock front end and un split bones, great hubs and stock brakes..and it was considered a good deal..a better deal when old Bob dumped it in my lap for free to help get me started on the topo. point ???sometimes ya get lucky..sometimes ya gotta hold your breath and hope
$100 to $200 in the Northeast for a good one, you missed a beautiful one at the last amherst in Oct. I don't know anyone around here paying 3 to 4.5 for A rails... I'd keep looking, the fitchburg swap coming up soon would be a good place to find one, get there before sun-rise! -Torr
