He is an ex-son in law. Tool doesn't begin to describe him. He told me to lift my Cherokee by heating and stretching the coils. I p***ed. He also told me mount a boat on top of my Blazer ch***is. I said no again.

I'll get pics of the gas tank soon. It's worth the wait.

It's a good thing that he is a -former- in law. I predict that he will be a Darwin award candidate in the future!

YIKES!!!!!!! Why not use stock front mounts. They are available in reproduction, and just bolt in.

  6. That don't look too bad. It's just a Chevy anyway.

Amazing what the Law of Gravity will do! Engine weight holds it right down on the x-member. No problem!!

  9. **** thats some of the worst engineering ive seen in quite some time. One of the reasons why over here in N.Z we have a certification process where a certified inspector checks the car at different parts of the build, when the car is done they take it for a drive and check brakes etc then rivot an info plate on the fire wall detailing all the mods done, only when that plates on is it legal to hit the road, get a roadworthy sticker and a rego. Pretty good system as theres a manual to follow on the do's and don'ts and if you stick to it your sweet. Helps keep **** like your example off the roads!!
Man I be framing those things, maybe make a fabricator of the year award to hand out to your mates. Haha.

Reminds me of a T bucket that I saw back in the late 60's. The owner had brazed his motor mounts to the frame rails, and could not figure out why the motor fell out on the road when he tried to pull a hole shot.

He is a person that should not be allowed to own any tools, and have a restraining order preventing him to be within 100 yards of a welder.
    My brother is like that.

I think strapping the motor down with bungee cords would have worked better.

Any man willing to trade freedom for security deserves neither. That being said, some people shouldn't work on cars.

SOmetimes you have to wonder if somebody is pulling your weewee with **** like this...then you remember that truth is stranger than fiction and no one who knew anything about cars could even think this one up!

  25. WOW, three pages of experts on this thread. Seems strange that when these show up there is always multi-pages expounding on the quality and skill of of the work that started the thread. That's why the HAMB is so invaluable. Nobody on here has ever made any mistakes or did questionable work,EVER. This has got to be the only place on earth where the term "learning curve" is treated the same as leprosy. Newbies should be cautioned that unless they've come out of the womb with an engineering degree and welding certification they better keep any and all thoughts to themselves.
While it's good to show this kind of work, it might help a bit to post some pics of what is considered the right way to do it.

Mistakes are fine, everyone makes mistakes and everyone needs to learn.

Guys like this who have no common sense deserve every bit of grief they get.

It's complete carelessness like that that causes other people to get hurt. a five-year-old could look at that work and tell that it's not safe.

An honest attempt at doing the job, even if it's done wrong is fine by me. Do it over and do it properly. The guy who did that work just plain didn't care about how poorly it was done.

A guy like that will NEVER learn the right way because he can't be bothered.
