Four times ten & my memory is going for a shit, but i still feel like an 18yr old.......just can't get me one damnit. Ernie i thought you was much older....must all that hard work you do!!
You can download the whole 9 minute Duck and cover movie "Atomic Cafe" here: http://chemistry.about.com/cs/history/v/aavid030103.htm You younger guys think about your kids seeing this in school. Every kid from the 50's can probably still sing the song today! The 50's wasn't all Deuce Coupes and Dobie Gillis!
I was going to say him, but I couldn't spell it off the top of my head. Who remembers these! Better try Less speed per mile That car May have to Last a while Burma-Shave
60's Happy Birthday! I am 42 in November going on 22, wife keeps telling me I can't go contortionisting around under and over a car anymore like I used to but I can't tell the difference, although I do tend to lift with my legs and not my back as much
I think the late 20's early 30's are turned to the traditional scene since the imports are all show and now go (just bolt on everything) the muscle car guys are generally into straight line speed only (read only care about power and speed...no looks or style) and with the traditional rides you can have the good looks and speed. (they are also cheap to build and work on) if you are more into fabrictation going to the older cars are a better canvas to work with. nick
Just turned 34. Born in 70, started life at the end of the hippie era, just old enough to see some of the disco era, teenager during the hair band era and mullet mobiles, saw the passing of the torch to grunge, and now, whatever we are in now. Throughout all of it, I was always into old cars and 50s and 60's stuff. Mainly because of my parents. I remember going to lead east way back and falling in love with the whole thing. I still find it amazing that the generation behind me (gen x's?) are into it. Glad to see that there are plenty of youngins' to carry the flame when we are all too hold to keep it lit.
[ QUOTE ] Who remembers these! Better try Less speed per mile That car May have to Last a while Burma-Shave [/ QUOTE ] I do! I've just written a "The (ocassional) Friday Nite Read" all about "Balls," his '49 Olds fastback, a double-barreled shotgun and those Burma Shave signs...might want to watch for it in the next few weeks and learn some history at the same time! I still play games to this day. I had the Evel Knievel stunt cyle that you put on the stand and cranked the piss out of. He'd launch and just like the real thing, crash in about 5 feet. I love the old toys. I buy toys for my kids now and they suck.
I second K9's feelings on the matter. I'd just hate to find that in 2034 a 40 ford coupe was found in a barn and cut up because nobody on our earth knew how to make it run again. I want the younger guys to have as much fun with hot rods as I have....so far.
57 and i'm glad to be here. hell after my lung reduction surgery last year and 2 weeks in a coma and 6 weeks in ICU it feels great to be anywhere!!!
Dont get impatient, we were all there and could'nt wait!! Be cool, it WILL be worth it!!

[ QUOTE ] TVs that you had to get up to change channels. DIAL telephones... WITH cords. "Fill 'er up with ETHYL..." [/ QUOTE ] Born in 1956...! Our remote control for our ten inch black & white TV was named "Tom" (he had the worst eyesight and sat closest to the set)..., we just had to see what was on the other 3 channels...!!! Didn't have to dial more than 4 digits on the phone for a call...! Parents regulated the use because of my 3 sisters use of the phone...! I worked in a full service "Sinclair" station when I was 14 to pay for car parts for my 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie!!!!!!! Delivered newspapers from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. from age 10 to 14. I would read "CARtoons" comics by flashlight..., listen to AM radio late at night finding stations from Texas, Chicago, and Michigan, and when the skip was just right..., I'd get New York! We would ride our bikes 3 miles out to the Quaries for a swim! If you saw a 14 year old with a Shotgun walking down the street you knew he was going "Squirrel hunting" in the nearby woods...! And I remember the day JFK was shot better than yesterday...! Mark
55 years young... and still changin points! -----------------------------------------------------------
