Williamsons converts Sun tachs to modern electronics.

  2. I can't say for sure. Repro labels are being made today. It cud be a variance in the label itself or it cud be a variance between computers if you're looking at photos. My approach for dating one as early or late wud be the design of the sender. Early ones had four threaded poles coming out of the side of the base for attaching the wires and newer ones had four flat tangs. The early ones had a silver surround around the label and the newer ones didn't. The early ones had a postal zone on the label, i.e., Chicago 31, Illinois, and the newer ones had a Zip Code. Of course, with the advent of repro labels, someone cud mistakenly put the wrong label on the sender, but I believe the physical aspects of the sender wud be a dead giveaway.

If you have a Chevy don't forget the cable driven tach's.. I like the iron distributors, I plan on picking one up and on running one set of points with a CD box and a cable driven tach...

  5. I just got one of these with a project I bought. The guy I purchased it from said the guy who built it out ran allot of muscle cars with the hotrod 312 in it. Also had homemade electric fans setup and an electric Stewart Warner 240A fuel pump. IMG_1165.jpeg IMG_1164.jpeg IMG_1163.jpeg

I know, I know it's an old old...
and he hasn't been on the HAMB lately (since April 2025)
But this MAY help other's down the road in year's to come "When we are all tak'in dirt naps"
The build date of his Sun Super Tach Green Line is on the back in ORANGE, 1st # is the Month, 2nd set of #'s (if more then one) is the Day, 3rd # is the Year.
The 3rd # being a 3 could mean 1953 or 1963 or 1973... by doing some simple searching you can find out when Sun Electric Co. made each new Sun Tach.
The New Green Line Sun Super Tach or SST's came out as Sun was still making the Half Sweep Football Tachs in the early 1960's, so the "3" most likely is 1963.
The next Sun Super Tach SST Tach was the Sun Super Tach Blue Line, both Green Line & early Blue Line Tachs used the EB Boxes & we're being made at same time for a few year's together.
Then about 1966-67 the Sun Super Tach Blue Line was made stand alone Electronic "No EB Box" any longer.
The Stand alone Electronic Sun Tach & the Sun Super Tach Blue Line SST with the EB Box also overlapped a few year's together.
Then the New Sun Super Tach II's (Blue Line) stand alone Electronic Tach came out between 1970-71, these early Sun Super Tach II Blue Lines we're still made in USA.
The Sun Super Tach Blue Line SST & the Sun Super Tach II Blue Line we're both being made at the same time for about two or three year's in the early 1970's.
Then about 1976-77 Most Sun Tachometers and possibly other Sun Gauges we're made in Japan and or China, then later 1978? (and still today) anything with "Sun Tune" on the Sun Tachometers or the other Sun Gauges is definitely NOT MADE in the USA...
My 1970's "Black" Sun Mechanical Water Temp Gauge & my 1971 Sun Super Tach Blue Line SST-802-2 (Stand alone Electronic Tach) & the back of my 1963 Sun Super Tach Green Line SST (made almost the same time as the original HAMB poster) hope these pictures help some.
