I am have done some digging yet figured the HAMB is the best resource of knowledge. Can anybody tell me how rare a 1947 Lincoln Zephyr convertible is? Some facts I read are: Continental Cabriolet convertible - 740 Built in 1947 there where two convertible versions in '47: Coupe and Continental, what is the difference and how can I pick these out? I understand they dropped the Zephyr name post war production, but they still are called Zephyrs? Hum, odd. I ask because I have located one (in need of work of course) and before buying want to get some facts. Thanks in advance for any****istance. .
I believe the zephyr had a longer trunk, and IMO looks better. The other one had a more square trunk. I have been pretty interested in these too lately. Lots of potential, and different for sure.
There are some nice pics at carnut .com http://carnut.com/photo/list/linc/linc47.html Also some basic information: http://carnut.com/specs/gen/linc40.html
There were 738 Lincoln Continental convertibles built in 1947. Total 1947 Lincoln production was 19,891. There are NO production figures to breakdown 1946-1948 Lincolns regarding convertible, coupe or sedan. The Continental had 4" sectioned out of the body/hood, elimination of the built-in running boards, and an extra foot in length added to the front fenders. They also had a smaller top-opening truck with an exposed "continental" spare tire, and less chrome. The Continental bodies have a lot of lead in them, being truly hand-built. The '40-'48 Continentals were declared a "classic car" at soon after the end of production, and the regular line became an also-ran to collectors. Many coupes and convertibles gave up their parts to the restoration of Continentals. My parents had/have a 1947 Continental coupe, 1948 sedan, and a 1946 coupe. A 1947 Lincoln convertible is now very rare.
I have 2 47 Lincolns for sale. A Continental Convertible and a 4 Door Sedan. Just sold a 47 Club Coupe. 47 Continental had a "Continental Kit" on the back.
Thank for all the help, I now know this is not a Continental as there is no provisions for the "kit" on the rear. This car is rough and needs major help, but the convertible top frame is there and most body parts. Floors are rusted out. I hate to see a rare car go to the crusher. But this one will be a big-time project. I may just snag and stash until the time is right ... DMW56 - what condition and prices are the ones you are selling? PM me if you would please. .
I don't believe they are called Zephyrs, but some folks may have hung on to the name. Neat cars dmw56!
You don't see bumpers like that anymore.. H*ll, just the front bumper alone could be melted down and spun into 2 teeyota priuses. (..and I heard that every time a prius gets in an accident, an Eskimo kills a baby seal). .
