I just found a 42 Ford Super Deluxe 2 door sedan. Anyone know how many were sold or made? Thanks. Mike
culdnt tell ya, all i know is there's one for sale in the paper, and there's a guy three houses down who has a 42 ford, not sure about model though
A '42 anything is a relatively rare bird. The new model production didn't start as early back then as it does now. If memory serves me right, the first production '42s probably came off the line about September or October '41. Civilian car production was stopped by WWII in mid February of '42. So, it was a short production year for all makes.
Encyclopedia of American Cars: 37,189 - the most of any 42 model 3,187 is the Special Tudor Sedan Rich
Well if anyone needs one I just bought one to turn. Haven't picked it up yet though it's in Wyoming and I won't be getting it home until the end of June
I had a '41 as my first car. Nova subframe, rear, 305/350, 4 door w/rear suicide doors. I miss that car, and one of these days will buy and build a '41 tudor Super Deluxe Coup to replace it. Someday.................
In my opinion, rarity doesn't always equate to value. I like the '42s, but couldn't be convinced to pay any more for one than I would for a '46, '47, or '48.
If you have a 1942 Super DeLuxe Tudor Sedan, Model # 21A-70B ; 47,199 were produced. If you have a 1942 DeLuxe Tudor Sedan, Model #21A-70A; 27,302 were produced. If you have a 1942 Special Tudor Sedan, Model# 21A-70C, 3,185 were produced. Source of info:THE V-8 ALBUM, published by Early Ford V-8 Club of America,1985; pages200-201.
It's a ford. I'll give you $100 and you can thank me later for saving you the expense, pain and humiliation of being the owner.
Actually so is honor come to think of it. If you are after rare buy a '43 or 4. I saw a 44 ford sedan at a show in Calif, the guy had title and documentation to prove it. He found it on one of the intern camps in a buulding and managed to get the original paperwork from the fed. It didn't look any better than a '42 or 6 but it was neat to see one.
I had a satin black 42 conv. a while back and thought it was cool , people kind of freaked on it because you don't see a bunch . Probably the least desireable year of 32 -48 though . It wasn't that long ago that 37's and 38's were kind of the red headed stepkid though , now everbody digs them and I think somewhere down the road the same might happen with 41's and 42's . Prices and supply and demand being what they are , in my opinion with time guys start getting more excited about the traditionally less wanted stuff .
41 Fords are desireable cars and always have been. The 42s not so much just because they are really not as good looking as the 46-48s. The Specials are 6 cylinders.
If it's the black on in Largo, That one has bee around here for a while, It was some lady's daily for about 5 years had to be 10 years ago. A guy named George has it now I noticed the sign in the window Monday night. I'm building my 46 Tudor with the smoother, better looking 42 hood. This one was done by Steve's Auto Restorations:
a guy I know has a documented 42 ford sedan delivery! Talk about a neat old car. I guess rare might be a word you could even use. Anyone got any production numbers for 42 sedan deliverys?
Doh! I bought the hood way before the S.A.R. car. Maybe I'll get DIRTYT to take a swing by that '42 on our way up to Spring Hill tonight. It's less than a mile from my house.
1942 DeLuxe Sedan Delivery, Model 21A-78..... 1,330 produced. That's the lowest automobile production number of all 1942 FORD cars. The next lowest are convertibles with 2,920. (Good luck finding parts.)
