    1. Good
    2. Fast*
    3. Cheap

    Pick any two!

    * - As in how short the project timeline is, not how fast the car is ;)

  2. The more time and money you have, the quicker it goes.

So for most of us, it takes forever and a day:(

As everyone has said it depends on alot of things. I have been real serious about cars/trucks for the last 15years. In that time I have built a good number of projcts, (and rebuilt the same one more times than I can count).

The quickest complete build, from 2 frame rails and a pile of body parts, to finished glossy paint took 99 days. I was younger, not that I am old now, and it was a roadster truck. When I started that build I set down with a legal pad and made rough drawings of the entire truck, then broke it down into smaller drawings of the seperate assemblys. From there I made a detailed parts list of what I had, what I needed to make, what I needed to buy, when it needed to be done. Doing it this way I had a solid understanding of what parts needed to be on hand when. It was so much easier with a detailed plan. When I finished the build I was 7days late, 8k over budget, and had slept maybe 25-30hours in 20days.

It all depends, mostly on you and what you have to bring to the table.

I'm going to be a smart butt here. If one of your students had fill out a questionair, as you did on your bio. you would have talked with your student. you also did not state what kind of car, model, pinewood derby,or a full sized car. just a thought.

I'm sorry Scratch Built, I guess I didn't understand your stupid question. I'm sorry I upset you.

Best of luck, write a book when you get the chance.

What happened to you guys? Y'all just take this crap these days, back then you wouldn't have been so kind.

The question was STUPID, rhetorical and utterly unanswerable.

I wonder if Michelangelo asked a dumb a qustion from established muralists before tackling the Sistine Chapel ceiling?

    Sheesh!

FROM 90 DAYS TO THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. I have done cars in 3 months. I have been working on my 50 ford vert since 73. Not bad considering it came into my family in 55. Two years is realistic. I have read it takes the average guy 4 years to complete a major project. So figure 20 grand, 4 yeas and 1 wife.

Scratch Built, you are a total moron, this has nothing to do with violence or our respective fathers getting into fisticuffs.

I can almost bet that you don't have the tools nor the skills to even build a cat scratching post, never mind a car....regardless of how long it takes. If you had even a tiny clue you wouldn't have asked such a stupid question, you still haven't given us an iota of information as to what the fuck it is you intend to build.

Post a picture of your progress and make me a believer.

You bagged on Kevin Lee with your dumbass 'iron ore' comment. If you would have sat back and read the HAMB you wouldn't be so fast to rip on a respected member of the board.

I'm gonna stick around just to see what you come up with.

PS, mighty grandiose name you've got there.

every one of the responses to your question was an attempt to help you.

    everyone said the same thing,

your question can not be answered without more information

instead of answering even the most basic questions about your project you insult some of the most respected long time members of this board.

you had every opportunity to turn your open ended impossible to answer question into a productive conversation.

you chose instead to prove your question is only a reflection of your own gaps in thought and judgement

    this thread was going nowhere.
