Dumb question I know, but I was checking out my a arm bushings on my 63 chevy impala trying to find the root of a creaking sound coming from my front driver side and discovered that two of my A-arm bushing nuts are quite loose. I can easily turn them in either direction. Are they supposed to be this lose or should I tighten them down all I can by hand? Thanks
Back them out and put a gob of White grease behind the washer. Then retighten to specs for a bolt that size in fine thread. I would guess about 25 to 30 ft. Lbs. to be good. Should help the squeak unless the bushings are worn out. The uppers can be changed on the car if you take your time and don't get real mad and burn your car.
Thanks fellas. Tightened em down by hand, no more annoying creaking going over tracks and into parking lots.
The nuts should be around 45-55 ft. lbs. torque, with the car sitting on the ground at ride height. Also use some suspension grease under the washer before torqing them down.
