I just had my front axle chromed. I filed down the axle and got the spindle on and king pin installed. Now I am not sure how tight the back and forth motion of the spindle should be? Its a little snug, I don't know if I should file a little more off or not?Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,Dan

The king pin stays put in the axle, so it being chromed should have no influence on the spindle being tight.

Were the bushings reamed to fit the king pin? They would have had to be.. they are what determines how tight it is..

Not necessarily. It also depends on the depth of the axle king pin boss vs the inside dimension of the spindle with the thrust bearing in place.

Chroming the axle could build up the pin boss on the axle, thereby reducing clearance.

The resistance being felt may not be from the king pin/bushing fit.

I guess I'm just referencing my own experience with it. Aren't there thin shims that come with the bearing?

apparently I did not make myself very clear. When my front axle was chromed there was a thin layer of chrome on top and bottom of the axle where the kingpin goes through. It was so tight I had to file off some of the top and bottom to have enough clearance for the spindle and bearing. I could file down more if I needed too I just did not know how easily it should hove back and forth with out a tire and wheel on it. Thanks, Dan

One finger on the end of the spindle should move it easily with properly fitted kingpins.
