I think it will be a mistake to do anything but buy the car outright. The last thing you need is complications because you're....

    A) taking too long to fix up the car
    B) She finds out you didn't pay enough for the car
    C) You didn't sell it for enough and she thinks your trying to screw her
    D) She dies and you have to deal with her relatives
    E) You fall in love with it and don't want to sell it.

The list goes on but you get my point. Clean, simple, buy the car if she'll sell it to you, for the price she names, if you think it's fair.

I have lots of old projects.

I could die tomorrow for all I know.

I'd be pissed if I knew people where scheming to get my stuff the way I'm reading about here.

Yes, I know most of the replies here are jokes, but the basic premise is distasteful.

Ok, ok... I just wanna know who told you ? Just kidding.

But on a serious note, If shes in her 60's she is perfectly capable of making a proper decision about that vehicle. She couldn't possibly be that out of touch with the world of today.

Its going to come down to if she wants it or not. She obviously doesn't drive it at all. If the vehicle served a purpose for her or it wouldn't be covered with junk in her garage. This vehicle might not have any meaning to her at all. I would hate to see this car go to a s**** yard because he never spoke up. The s**** yard would do the exact same thing...or worse, they could crush it !!

Remember the old saying.. "One mans trash is another mans treasure".

You know, it's speculators like YOU who are driving the price of the hobby up! It doesn't matter if it's a musclecar or a lead-sled, when flippers like you get a hold of these cars, it does nothing but bad things. People see you selling that stuff for top dollar (desirable or not), and suddenly every old rusty pile in thier garage is solid gold! It makes it harder for the rest of us to buy parts for cheap, let alone project cars for cheap!

If you were going to buy it and DRIVE it, that's one thing, but if your whole plan is to buy it to flip it, I'd rather see that car rot into the ground than to see you counting the cash at Barret-Jackson! Sacrifice one Cuda for the good of the hobby!

From the tone of your posts, you sound like you've worked yourself into a greedy-vulture frenzy.

I think you're going to walk in all jacked up, with dollar signs in your eyes, and muff the deal.

Calm down. Respect her. Respect the car.

If she is indeed dying soon, she likely doesn't give a **** about the money. She'll leave it to the guy who mows her lawn, or to the humane society before she lets a vulture get it.

Look at the thread ***le! He can't wait to get his greedy grubby little hands on it to turn a buck. No respect for his elders, no respect for the dying. Distasteful is the right word.

Hey 6deuce, why don't you try to do something nice for the old lady without any expectations about the car? Could be a character building experience.

If the cars for sale, go for it. If not, oh well. Nothing gained, nothing lost. If she dies, her estate goes to her relatives.

Friend of mines Uncle died. All the relatives came to the house to help clean it. While my friend is working, his Aunt tosses him some keys and tells him to take the car if he wants it. It is a restored 61' Corvette!!! He tells his Aunt, "What about the other relatives?" His Aunt says, "No one else wants it, so take it".

This guy already had his Uncles 31' Model A sedan, a pro street 67' Nova and a 9 second 70' Nova. No one else in the family liked cars.

Geez, som guys have all the luck............

    Agreed.

If you want the car, go over and offer the "Barrett Jackson" price that you're dreaming about getting for yourself.

Otherwise you are simply planning on screwing this lady out of her possession and it's dollar value.

  19. You've been jibba jabbering too much about this, so I flew out and got the car myself. It's a 71 Hemi Cuda! I drove it all the way back to WI.

I agree with moosman, haring and tingler.
If you don't care any more about this car other than what you can get for it on a quick flip then the HONORABLE thing to do woulld be to go offer to be the owner's AGENT in selling it for HER, for a fair commission, like 10-15% or whatever is the going rate?
What do the BJ auction type people charge back for services?
She'll probably tell you the car's already been claimed by her son anyway...

And 60 better not be old because I'm going to be there in 9 months!

....you wanna sell that old wore out truck of yours?

I'll give you $1000. You know thats good money and it'll help with your doctor bills since you're turning 60 and all.

Hmm, Thats a little out of line don't you think? Most people would consider that to be throwing the first punch in arguments. Let me remind you that this is not an argument. Its a discussion and hints of humor with a group of adults.

I think you are taking this way to personal. but thats just my opinion.

Seems like a lot of you think it's okay to get a rock bottom deal as long as your going to keep the car, but otherwise your screwing the lady over... that just doesn't make sense. that only works in "our" world where we appreciate the end use of the car... that lady most likely won't give two ****s about what happens to the car, so she's either happy with the cash or not happy (and guessing it won't sell unless she's happy) so who the fuk cares what his plans are??? seems like there might be more jealousy that one less cheap "barn find" is there for you guys to buy than there is sympathy for the old(er) lady... I think the only thing I agree with here is that if she names a price, either pay it or walk away, don't fukin talk her down even one penny.

I totally agree with you. I think some people are hating on him because its not them in this position right now. I also think theres a few people who should read all the posts before ***uming he screwing her over.

He said he would give her asking price. If it is not within his budget then he probably will not purchase the vehicle at all. Done deal.

    Its worth asking.

well lmn444 kida beat me to it..but what i gotta say about it is this. If your intentions are good, and you see an oportunity to do good for you and your family and her's than be real and do it. F*^k all the cry babies on here who didnt find it (because most of this thread sounds like a bunch of jelous ****)..Be respectful of her situation and , who knows maybe this lady has gotten to a point in her life where a little help may be a nice gesture and if you end up with the car in the deal, well than its a win win situation. It doesnt really matter what your plans are for the car . most all of us have fliped a car or two to put money in our projects. Be nice and be honest about your intentions when you talk to her..that way no missunderstandings and no hard feelings..hell tell her your planning on re-selling it..she probably doesnt really give a **** about it..or isnt it sitting in a garage forever give you guys any clue about her interest in the car?

Who the hell says the car is CHEAP?

the ol' lady might be watching Barrett Jackson while she zones out on oxygen.

Its just in bad taste to try and prey on those in a bad position.

If the car was for sale on the front lawn with a $200 price tag, then go for it. Flip it, burn it, drive it, who cares.

......going over there after a car that isn't even publicly for sale with a plan to shake the "DYING OLD WOMAN" out of her car is low. Its low and its only a few steps up from out right theft.

It's like, what's next? You gonna go after some down syndrome kids next? I know where one works near here. He works at Wendys. I bet you could easily talk him out of his next paycheck. Just offer him a few beers or something. I bet he'll sign it right over to you.

(see how distastefull that is)

I read the damn thread and I got a good idea what this dude's plans are. The ***le says quite a bit after all.

    My advice:
Go over, ask politely if she'll sell. If she says $200.......give her $400 and go home and sleep soundly.

If she says $20,000.......leave the car and go home and sleep soundly.

    STOP SCHEMING. It ****s.
