Cash in your left hand, keep your right hand empty to accept the ***le. No ***le.... No Cash! Bring an Antique Tag or Buy one at the show.... Then driver her home!
i took about $15,000.00 cashish a few years ago to TRR to buy a car...of course you dont tell anyone, and do the deal in a place like hotel lobby where there are other people and cameras. Or have a buddy with you, or a gun works too.
Hi, I have sold plenty of cars in the USA, being from Canada only cash works for me. If it is a real nice car and priced right there will be more than one person interested in it. One guy has cash and the other guy has a cheque which one would you sell to? Good Luck with your purchase.
Cash. 20k in $100 bills will fit in one front pocket. That makes 40K very easy to walk around with. Cash will also make you think about your purchase a bit more. Kind of like the Dave Ramsey approach to hot rod buying. I know lots of people would be shocked at how much money walks around at big shows.
Car shows are not the best place to buy a car - what you need is a SWAP MEET. Something like Hershey or Carlisle or a local/regional version of the same thing. There are still going to be overpriced cars, but there are always a few bargains, too. Just be sure to get there early and go the first AND the last day! I got a good deal on a really clean '50 Ford coupe at a local swap meet about 10 years ago. It was Sunday afternoon at a Friday/Saturday/Sunday swap meet. The guy didn't have the car there until Sunday. A lot of people with cars for sale do that because they know there will be more buyers running around.
My family and friends have bought a total of 6 cars from the turkey rod run....all of em got a killer deal... Yeah some are dreamers...others, like Duece R. said are looking to NOT come home with their sled. When I was at the March version of the TRR high quality stuff was CHEAP for what it was......actually, prob cheaper than building the same car in alot of cases.... I'm seriously thinkin of going down there with a pocket of cash, buyin a car thats done, driving it around for a few years (and until my project is done) and flippin it once the market comes back (if it ever does). Saying that car shows are a bad place to buy cars is a huge over-generalization...think of it as a huge car lot that is run by a bunch of independent dealers...and alot of em are hungry.
Seems like on Sundays the prices on a lot of the windshields have been cut in half in a lot of cases. I think they get initialy priced in the stratosphere hoping a fool with a pocketful of cash will come along. As the event comes to a close the prices always seem to plummet. Maybe their heart just isn't into selling so they're marking them high. I also understand the logic of prices can be dropped during a negotiation, but you can't go back up. But if your car has got 20K on the windshield and I KNOW it's not more then a 10K car...I'm not even going to discuss it with you. So sure, go to a show like the Turkey Run with some cash. Odds are you'll bring something home. In the meantime there are lots of other resources you can be searching for your next ride.
