How to: Low buck engine turned gauge panel!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fordor Ron, Jul 21, 2010.

  1. Yeah... I thought about that when I typed it but decided to roll with it. I was afraid if I said 1/4 someone would buy 3/4 and screw it up... Ha!

Here's a link to the small diameter stuff which I didn't see until now:

I used the larger diameter but I'm glad I did. I like a little bling. Next week I'll be rollin' on twenty fo's... He he he!!

I dig it- thinking about using it on a bicycle tank application.

are you sure it's not polyester. u can also get this stuff from a sign writers supplier generally in either 610mm or 1220mm wide rolls up to 45mts long.

  6. If you do a Google you'll find unlimited fancy parts for a Tele, or any other guitar for that matter. Allparts, Stewart MacDonald are just two of many.

You can get the vinyl at most any sign/graphic shop in your hometown. It's good stuff.

    For pearly/flaky stuff, I use www.precisiondrum.com

About 15 years ago I used the photo-engraved? vinyl stuff for my dash. Applied it on the surface of the gauge panel. Still looks as good as new. I've put about 80k miles on the rod since installation.

Thanks for the links guys. This has made it a productive morning as I have found interesting stuff for two projects that I have going on those links.

I know this is an old thread but just wondering how they held up? Thinking of doing this to my 34 ford dash.

I've done some panels for various projects and used Cratex abrasive rolls (looks like a Tootsie Roll) in my drill press and a board with a grid glued onto it to get the spacing right using a reference mark on the bottom of the panel, a little clear over it and it looks great.
