If you post a picture of your car, it'll be easier to make suggestions. You probably should also go to the intro section and introduce yourself, we always appreciate that.

"59 Bonneville tail lights are great in them but they are hard to find, even here.
Second choice would be the tail lights out of a Deville one body style older than the '95 you have, turned sideways.

If you find someone locally with old car magazine collections, see if you can find a copy of the 1962 Car Craft magazine with the feature on the Von Hunter built full custom 57 Sunliner, sorry I've misplaced mine and can't remember the month it was featured. I think the February (might have been March or April, though) 1963 issue contained an article on the Top Ten customs for 1962 and it was featured there also.
Don't let it being a 57 throw you, the car used 58 headlights frenched into the fenders with rolled pans and a bar grille. It also had a 58 hardtop grafted on after chopping it 2 1/2". As it was presented in the magazine in this, it's first itteration, it was an absolute stunner, simple and tastful. Obviously the magazine editors thought so too, by making it one of their Top Ten at a time when many, many customs were featured in the car magazines.
Definitely worth study by anyone contemplating customizing one of these cars.
If in the near future, I can find my copy, I'll scan the feature into my computer and be able to post it (not sure about the legalities though).

Why do you need someone else to tell you what is a "cool" thing to do with your car? Why not just do what you like? After all, it is YOUR car, right? I get so sick of people wanting everyone elses opionion:mad:  Why not do it how you like it and **** everyone else? B/C that would not be cool????

Thank YOU retard. The guy is just looking for ideas. None of us came out of the womb omniscient in the ways of kustom car styling, we got help along the way. Better he asks questions and gets it right than build some clapped-out ****ter because the car's styling is all over the place.

    Back ON topic:

First off, you'll need to shoot for a year to style after. This will dictate many styling cues and decisions you make along the way. You'll need to keep a constant "theme" throughout, or else the styling will contrast. For example, if you were building a 49 Merc in the early 50s style, you wouldn't flake out the roof (metalflake was popular later on), and you wouldn't put dummy spots and lake pipes on a g***er. You can go a number of different directions with your car, late 50's east coast kustom, late 50's west coast kustom, early 60's style cruiser...all will bring a different flavor.

My vote, I gotta represent the east coast kustom. '57 Eldorado headlights would look *****in. radius the hood corners and fill the scoop for a smooth look. Nose, deck, shave the handles, appleton dummy spots and moulded lake pipes would be bad ***. Put the nose high and *** down, and I think continental kits look killer on a 55-58 Fords. Either Turnpike Cruiser skirts or stock skirts would go a long way as well. 58 Fords had some crazy styling, so the paint should go along with that. Leave the factory side trim, as it's some of the coolest offered, and either scallop the car, accenting the awesome line of the trim, or hit it with some outrageous colors and metalflake. That would be a lead sled sure to turn heads.

Hi there .. Thanx for the link to Mickes zite ... Man , did I enjoy those pix from A1 :) :)
You car , Well , to me ,...it seems a bit too nice to be given a total "makeover" ....
( A slight shave & lowering will probably be enough to put in focus )
Maybe you could flake the roof in a 3rd ( dark?) shade of green ?
And, maybe you could surprise the crowds with a late fifties style custom interior ??
Sometimes ... Less is more !!
btw ..I totaly agree with `57Joe on this : Keep the side trim !!!

Seems like a really clean car, lower it with a little nose down stance. A set of chrome reversed wheels, skinny white bias plys. I think -58 Fords looks great with 57-58 Desoto/ Chrysler headlights. Might try some other tailight lenses, -59 Bonneville ( like Dr J said) -58 Lincoln or make some yourself?

I found that car in an other paper, "CUSTOM FORDS" from Hot Rod Magazine printed in 1964.

That looks really nice with the Desoto headlights.

If you just wanted to do a couple things without tearing the whole car apart, consider replacing the stock grille insert with a tube grille or mesh, and re-do a stock '58 hood with a '58-60 Thunderbird scoop. The hood on a '58 is my least favorite part. The T-bird scoop is so much nicer looking, and rusted out or bent-at-the-hinges T-bird hoods are around quite a bit. I've got a modified T-bird scoop on my '53, I could take a picture of it if you want to see what it looks like.

The car looks great from a side shot. I love the side trim and the paint. A change of taillights would be nice too and you could do it without messing up the paint that's on the car now.

How to cut taillights lens for a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville. I will use it on a fairlane 1958 as the pictures. For cuts, I will glue the pieces of Plexi, what is best to cut with and which glue should be used.

The Nov. 59 issue of Car speed and style shows a 58 Fairlane 2drhdtp. black, lowered, skirts, lake pipes. He removed the gold and left the rest of the side trim intact. Taillights are 58 lincoln, grill is 57 buick, and the hood is 57 Ford with rounded front corners. I believe this is one of the tastiest renditions of a 58 I've ever seen. Good luck with yours, Mike.

This 58 is Lonnie Gilbertson's of Portland, OR, a Oakland Hall of Fame Member. The neat part is he built a model of this car in 59/60 or so and his mom was cleaning out some of his stuff and gave it back to him so with the help of Donn Lowe the real 1:1 car was built.

  19. Its basically just a big '58 Thunder bird (if its a 2 door) so just look at a Watson car and go from there.

I have already built on the front, extended fenders and front 1-2". The bumper is the short 2" for smooter fit against the body. Grill opening is wider and a new grill is made of the same design as the original made by laser cut aluminium. The scoop on the hood is gone and the sand plate is new to fit better to the bumper. The frontcorners on the hood is rounded and fenders and front plate is molded together.
Air ride is on the car and a K-link will replace the stock leafsprings.
The roof has got a pair of antennas and has been flaked.
And now i have got a brand new pair of bonneville -59 taillights for custom fitting to the back, just need some info how to cut and glue them from someone who have done it before.

HA, I think we may have several hundred 57-58 Ford in Sweden, most of them are skyliners and there are many custom300 because they were sold new here.

The Roof is painted in the same color as the plates in sidetrim and flaked.
At first i have planned red candy for the body but it can also be white pearl with small scallops in the same color as the roof.
Maybee I take the sidetrimplates away and paint and flake the area instead.

    We will see...:D
