Yes I searched and struck out several times.

I am curious how guys have mounted moulded-in lakes pipes down the side of the rockers. Of course they need to be sturdy, but should also be a hidden mounting system to keep it clean and smooth. I'm a bit stumped and all the local guys just seem to hang them below the rockers with P-clamps.

Any first-hand advice or photos you can share?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. If you are talking about molded off the front fender get some muffler tubing have it bent to the radius needed weld it to the front fender, grind your welds down, if you wanna be " period correct" lead it in....or use a fiberglass reinforced filler, get a nice rubber glove, smear it over your welds and start " molding" it in. After that kicks sand it down, go over it with a quality body filler, sand, prime ,paint

You can also extend it into the rocker and the processs is the same. You can slash cut it, v cut it, this was a favorite trick of Downrivers Bill Hines

I think if I read his post right he is wanting to know how to mount the lake pipe its self, not how to french the front of it in. Jim

  5. I,m not sure exactly what you mean by molded. Anyway, i welded 3/16 bent curved tabs for more welded surface area to the backside of the pipes and just bolted it from underneath to the lip of the body at to rear mount and drilled a large access hole in the inner rocker to get a nut and bolt on the front one. Welding a nut underneath would have worked to.
The molded painted pipe is bolted on my car for maintenance reasons since it's vulnerable to damage. Access is under the scuff plates for the rocker. You can see a couple of studs welded to the pipe into the rocker and a bolt under the pipe at the fender end. Virtually no hardware showing unless your on your back.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm after. Attaching the chrome pipe, not the painted shroud. Thanks for the idea.

Maybe it's a regional thing, but I always heard this style of lakes pipes referred to as "molded-in" or "shrouded" pipes.

Anybody else done this and care to comment?

    I used the P clamps.
Instead of just using sheet metal screws, I borrowed a nutsert gun.
Now I bolt them to the rocker with 1/2" bolts.

  9. I cut a small slot in my pipe and bolted it to the rocker. Can't see it unless your under the car and it's very solid.

On my Dodge, I welded a nut onto the pipe to slip into the housing, on the bottom. and a stud on the open end, to go to an "L" bracket near the rear wheel well, on the backside, so it doesn't show.

I am agreed what is said above!!!
I have also faced the same problem. Its a basic easy modify, requires about 10Minutes initially you do it, and after you know how its done you can modify it in 2-3 Moments.

I drilled the back side of the pipe and welded in two 5/16" nuts, then built tabs front and rear mounted to the body, drilled a hole to size in each 'tab' and bolted the Lakes Pipes on...use that old KISS principle: Keep it simple stupid...!!!

That would work as the pipes aren't functional when you do that anyhow.

Seems like years ago there was an article on some guy who put on a set and ran the exhaust into the lakes pipes through a pipe that was welded to the backside of the pipe a few inches before the curve and the pipes were plugged at the front so he could have the exhaust come out the lakes pipe. That was also when it didn't break the bank to have a pair of lakes pipes you made yourself chromed.

Not sure if mine are liked or appreciaed?I did mine to get the look, but they are still removable on the 52. I have 2.5" tube bent in a 90 degree. I slash cut the pipe and welded round stock to the end and blended in. I did weld a tab at the front of the pipe so that it bolts to the inner front fender cross brace. I welded flat stock to the lakes pipe that runs the length of the rocker. I also flush welded (4) 1/4" bolts that hold the lakes pipes to the car and bolt through the bottom 1/2 body fold under the rocker. I then ordered the chrome lakes pipe, cut to length, the just slipped inside the Faux molded pipe.

I just welded studs on the back of the pipes and then welded brackets under the car to bolt them on.

  16. I welded tabs on mine but I like the nutsert suggestion previously mentioned.

  17. Nutserts are for light duty applications. They will wiggle loose and fall out. Been there.
