    Garage Gurus

I've scored a 56 F100, but I really only need the bed, bench seat, and the front drum set up for my 34 Chevy ratrod project. The brakes are worth using, right?

What else should I grab that may be worthwhile to me or someone else (and please don't beatme up by saying the whole truck, 'cause I'm storage space challenged).

Basically, I'm gonna part out what I need, and what may be of value to anyone else, and the rest has to go to the scrappers.

    Thanks in advance!

    Good Point.

I'll have to get a pic posted .

It's got all the panels, I was going to keep a couple fenders to practice some body techniques on. The doors, engine is an incomplete 272 that got rained in for years. No glass, Steering has major play in the box.

It's a beat down truck, and that's why the guy sold it as a parts truck. No title in hand.

..Ok, well, the parting begins. I'm thinking from poking around the forums, I should at least keep the steering assy, front end drum to drum, bed panels, hood latch panel, 5 bolt rims, doors.

I don't have room for the hood, fenders, cab, etc...unless there's someone local who wants the stuff free (pm me), the guy is gonna cash it in for scrap.

What's the condition of the fenders? Most rears can be salvaged easily as long as the flanged wheel arch is still sound. The fronts can be a bitch if they're gone over the headlites. (They're made up of multiple pieces up in there and it's a rust trap.) Otherwise the're not too hard to fix. Cab at the front mount where the A pillar meets the floor. Usually a bad scene-rusted around the mount and allowing the cab & floor to settle. Hard fix. Cowl patches, A=pillar patches and cab corners are all available. Iy's all a matter of how much time and $ you'd want to invest to mke it all good. If the detachable parts are not terrible, they ought to be resaleable.

The steering is still worth $100+ even as a core, save the pitman arm too. If the cab should happen to be a big window, its worth saving, regardless of condition. If its not, the roof itself is worth saving if its dented but not rusted(southern+eastern trucks seem to rot out around the rain gutter). The grill/splash apron/air deflectors are worth something to someone trying to beautify a '53-55. Half-ton front fenders are worth a few bucks if there not caved in or rusted out over the headlight(some dents are OK). If the front window has stainless trim around it(custom cab) that is a save item. The complete heater system will also sell. Finally, there seems to always be a need for half-ton short box frames for people converting a long box or fixing a subframe f-up. In short, if the piece is in good shape and from a '56, it will sell. Hope that helps.

    Right on.

Yeah, price of steel here recently went up...but it sounds like there's more worth cutting and setting aside for others to use..so I'll be sure to save what's been mentioned.

Good to know..I hate sending anything to waste, and I'm not smart on these trucks, so I appreciate all the insight.

    thanks again.
