Is there any good spray on that will remove brown baked on gas varnish from an aluminum intake manifold? Carb cleaner will not cut it. Don't want to remove it and media blast.

I've always used Eagle 1 aluminum wheel cleaner, the etching cleaner is a pretty aggressive acid if there's nothing near it you are worried about damaging...like polished aluminum. Rinse very well.

"Don't want to remove it and media blast."

So you mean to leave the intake on the engine during the cleaning?

  4. Maybe try some hand cleaner on the end of a rag or the orange cleaner degreaser..

I have used Meguiar's aluminum wheel cleaner. Spray it on, give it some time to work, give it a brush and hose it off. I was quite pleased with the results. Didn't harm the paint.

  6. I want to say I have used Brake Cleaner to clean off carb bases and intake on the car. It's worth a shot if you have a can handy.

Try some lighter fluid. It works great to clean aluminum intakes, without leaving behind a residue, I've used it a lot, better than brake cleaner. But I haven't let the deposits sit on the intake for a long time and age harden either, I try to keep it pretty clean, so any mess that gets on there I try to clean off soon. But I would give it a try in your situation.

Try starting fluid. Cleans oil off the outside.

VHT dull Aluminum spray paint. I know, I know, but if you cant clean it and you don't want to remove it, Spray the paint liberally on a piece of cardboard and apply with a white lint free rag or cheese cloth where needed and blend it in to the clean areas.

  11. many marinas or boat shops sell an aluminum cleaner you can put in a garden pump sprayer and hose down the large aluminum pontoons on your boat for a nice bright finish.
You must hose things down after a few minutes to prevent streaking.
It works great on my boat.
Removes tarnish, moldy water lines, and general shadows.
A truck shop nearby here uses something similar to brighten up their aluminum sided trailers that get dirty a lot. It works great too.
ask a truck place what it is?

    why be ordinary?

    This:

    worked well for me.

I pulled the intake (gaskets were leaking, plus I found an extra pushrod) and cleaned the gunk and greasy stuff off with purple cleaner and a stiff scrub brush (Lowe's, get a couple of "grout brushes" from the cleaning supplies aisle), then this stuff to get the baked on gas off.

Then I fixed the leaking accelerator pump, and the leaking banjo fitting, so I'd have less gas dripping on to the intake.

I have used easy off oven cleaner on intakes and motorcycle cases. It floats the dirt to the top and rinse with water.
