switching over to manual steering and all i need to get out is the damn control valve that seems like its pressed into the pitman arm on the drivers side. got the castle nut off and no matter what i do i simply cannot get that ball-and-socket piece to drop through the bottom of the pitman arm to get the whole ***embly off. i tried a small hammer, a big hammer, a bit of a pickle fork, no dice. there is a rather wide groove oin the top of the ball and socket bit but no idea how i could get leverage to spin that. does this work the same as tie rods and ball joints or is it threaded into the pitman arm? i may just cut the damn thing out but would like to know what i am doing wrong. thanks again all

  2. might have to heat it up. It's a standard taper like a tierod end. Probably just being stubborn!

  3. Take two hammers using one as a backup smack the opposite side of the pitman arm where the conyrol vale is attached. You may have to give it several hard raps then apply pressure to the tapered shaft of the control valve and it should pop right out.

thanks all - with the right tool it took all of 3 minutes. went to napa and got a ball joint separator - looks like a weird stapler - and used that. easy enough. just thought id p*** it along. the tool was 25.99
