I have a 1926 ModelT. The fuel shut off lever broke. How do I replace the gravity feed fuel plumbing. Also why does my gravity fed fuel seem to overrun the carb and mechanical pump. The oil pan is full of fuel. Thanks Jerry
Might be easier to answer your questions, if you were to post a few photos of your car. So we can see how the lever broke, and what it has for a fuel system. If it's been modified, perhaps someone added a pump, then we'd kind of need to know what the modifications are before making suggestions. The original system does work, if you use all the original type parts, and they are in good condition. This is the 27 I had...
you need to drain the tank and remove the sediment bowl/shut off unit by unscrewing it. parts are available to repair it or replace it. as far as the carb running over , there might be dirt holding the needle open, the float may have a hole or may be out of adjustment . if not ,you need a new needle and seat or/and a new float, if it has a hole in it.
The motor in my 26 is a Datsun 1600 4 speed manual transmission. Maybe it is the needle and seat? I will pull off and check it. Thanks Jerry
sure helps to know what you're actually working on. Gravity feed tanks work best with updraft carbs....
That little bit of information might have been very helpful to know from your first post. We all thought you were working on a stock model T. If you want good answers we need good information of what we are dealing with. Otherwise it's a guessing game.
You might need a new fuel pump if the oil pan is full of fuel. After it has been sitting a while pull the pump off and see if fuel is getting past the diaphragm and draining into the pan. Also pull the plugs and crank it over to see if the fuel is leaking from the carb into a cylinder /s
