Technical How to seal the front windshield on a chopped top

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Trever Brandenburg, May 22, 2023.

  1. How is everyone sealing the front windshield on a chopped top 1951 ford?
To piece glass with a V in the center. Is there a center caulk.

  2. I just use clear silicone sealer on my avatar. I do mask the seam on both sides to avoid getting sealer everywhere, that way I can push the sealer into the joint. Once I'm happy with the sealer, just peel the tape off, let it cure and you're done. I'll note this doesn't last indefinitely, expect to renew it every 6-7 years or so. Be careful when cleaning around the seam.

You do need a slight gap for the sealer, the two pieces of glass shouldn't be touching. Something like a plastic notebook divider used between the two pieces when installing works perfect. Too big of a gap and it gets challenging getting it sealed.
