Used motors & trans on a pallet qualify for class 70 freight. May sure you ask for this class,or you will get stuck in class 85 or worse.

  3. Dumb question, but are you better to ship with the oil and ATF pretty well drained, just in case something happens there's no hazardous materials spill to contend with?

take it to the dock and only ship to a business address.

also tell them it's class 85--that is for cores and junk stuff. way cheaper!

we have shipped stuff under class 85 for years and had no problems.

Cool thanks for the help guys. I tried BenD and Showtime 1st as I've used those guys for other parts & cars and been more than happy.

All fluids will be drained. and I'm going to tape off any openings that may leak oil & make a mess. So far engine shipping.com seems to have the best price. I'll probably go with them.

I am going to try r&L though as they have a local terminal that might be OK for me to drop off on my end.

    Thanks Again, Jeremy

Here's my story - I had an engine shipped to Texas from Atlanta via Conway.
It was cheap - less than $200. And when it arrived it was a mess! The palette was distroyed, the engine had rolled over many times damaging the carb, valve covers, oil pan and starter. But since it was a "used engine" the freight company considered it salvage and limits the value to $75!

I did get a few dollars more back only because the local agent is a rodder and when to bat for me.

The lesson? - ALWAYS buy insurance for the shipment!

Same deal here...pallet-ize the thing and take it to the terminal with a pickup...MKE to Nashville was about $300, IIRC.

    Good luck with it!

You can get most motors into a steel 55gl. drum bellhousing side down.
Wooden bracing/foam/spray foam will keep it from moving.
Truckers like it cause you can move drums easier than pallets...Drop it off at the trucking terminal for cheaper rates.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T USE CENTRAL FREIGHT!!!:mad::mad:

  13. Go with freightquote or echoglobal, use class 85 as said previously. Block and strap the hell out of it. At my place of employment we ship all over the world. We get the best rates from these "wholesalers" if you must. Don't be afraid to call them and tell them what the other company will ship it for, you'll get a better price...
