I need a little help with the swap of my generator to alternator on my 54 chevy sedan , went through some of post and got some good info but most are for other applications so read more an more an now im really confused .... , but I think I got it, only problem is I read so many I lost the one that was best for my application if anyone knows and can put a link that would really help ,I have a 54 chevy sedan with original wiring still I got it this way ,no motor so I put a 65 chevy imp 283 in compleat with alt. hooked it all up and it started for me but the battery wont charge checked alt and it was bad got new one ,(same ,just a reman.3 wire)and still wont charge, I started it and pulled the pos side of batt an it turned off so I started checking it out and I think I have to redo some wiring ,if I understand this I should disconnect voltage reg. take big brn wire and connect to the dbl red wires ,take the F terminal and connect to my acc on ING switch then take the R terminal an connect to ,I read you can put behind alt but better to put farther away like a batt post( don't have one) or someplace by coil but read that may cause a problem at high speeds so can I put at starter ??, Thanks hope I havnt canfused anyone.
I wire them like this. I get an alternator from autozone for a 1973-1980 camaro, remove the old generator and regulator, and bolt it up. Simple. I put them on everything, tractors, backhoes, and even old cars. They raised the price, used to be $35, now $45 plus a swap meet core. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...io7dvZ93xme?itemIdentifier=333351_23521_4676_
