Yes and no. Yes, the section of 3" tubing is 14" overall, and yes, the distance above the frame rail is 8 1/2", but that is to the top if the tubing capped off with a 3 x 3 piece of 3/16 steel plate. The stock AD bed crossmember rests on the top of the tubing. The 8 1/2" measurement is not from the frame to the bottom of the bed, but to the bottom of the bed crossmember.

    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Damm.. i wish it was easy i have to read it and read it back...

but to be honest too dificult to understand that you have a 3x3 3/16 on top of the tube i still understand...

    please check the drawing..

This is a great idea - if people could contribute measurements and plans, perhaps we could do an "open source" set of drawings and put them online for all to freely use.

Wouldn't it be interesting if some of these brackets had slotted holes in the top where the cab mounted, to allow for all kinds of different cabs to be mounted?

Or, if that's not safe, the tops of the brackets for the beds or cab, etc could be left undrilled. You'd have to do that yourself per your own application?

After putting this online as a virtual kit, how much time would pass before others jumped on the bandwagon and started submitting drawings of their own, for specific applications (like Fords, or Mopars, etc)? :)

Wouldn't it be nice to have a list of parts from these kits, so that we could make our own, but different enough so we wouldn't be sued?

And I use the term "open source" to the fullest of it's meaning...

    Genius!

That would allow them to make a bracket on a workbench, then just bolt it on!

    You rock, man!

Sorry I'm so late getting back to this post. There's way more information here than the 4 page article I have, but I will post it anyway. It just may help someone, someday.

Click on the attachment, then click the picture a second time after the screen goes dark, and it'll open up in a new window at full-size. Click it again in that window to magnify. :)

Don't forget to check out this post:
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=274702

    Or this link: http://www.gmupfitter.com/publicat/pdf/LD/LD_ST_Truck/LD_ST_Truck_pgs.pdf

It looks like a cheat sheet for folks that build purpose-built trucks on top of GM truck chassis... and it's got lots of pretty pictures with measurements!

Scroll down to page 51 of the .PDF linked to above and smile! :D

How far is it from the center of your front wheels to the center of front cab mount? And I was also wondering how much clearance there was from the bottom of your running boards and the bottom of your frame? Any information would be appreciated.
