Hey guys, long time lurker, first time caller. Am in the process of looking for a 60s model Ford, I have found a '64 Galaxie and a '65 Galaxie that I am seriously considering. The only problem is my driveway isn't massive, so I'm trying to find out what the width is of both the cars, but I'm having no luck at all searching the net for dimensions. Any help would be appreciated guys, Thanks, Vinny P.S. Great site!!
Towards the bottom of this website it says that the '62 had a overall width of 79.20 inches. On other websites that do not list the width, it says the '62 and '64 are the same in other dimensions such as wheelbase, so that they list them, "1962-64 Ford Galaxie Specs" or something like that. http://everything2.com/title/Ford+Galaxie Here it says that the '66 Galaxie has a width of 79 inches. The '65 and '66 look very similar, so the '65 probubly has a width of about 79 inches. http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=70103#a_bodywork On this website, a little ways down, it does not say the width of the Galaxies, but shows that the '62-'64 Galaxies and '65-'66 Galaxies were the same in most every other way. Hope this helps. http://www.galaxieclub.com/stats.html
practically speaking, a Galaxie is the fullsize model. '60s Ford don't get any wider. I looked at 15 "total performance" era Fords before settling on the '65 Fairlane 500 I have now. It's the midsize and pretty easy to get in and out of tight places. Previously I've had a '64 Mercury Comet 202. That was noticeably smaller, Falcon sized. Do the cars you're looking at have power steering? A fullsize car can be a handful to muscle in and out of a tight driveway...
Thanks heaps mate, knew I can count on the H.A.M.B.!! Now where's that measuring tape.... Oh and Rob it will most probably be a weekender anyways, I have a '66 VW Fastback for my daily commuter, quite a petite little thing. Power steering would be nice though, never had that in any of my cars
FYI. While I have a 65 and love it, its going to be a lot easier for you to find parts for the 64. Why, I dont know, but it is, just look in some of the speciality catalogs (Dennis Carpenter, Autokrafters, etc.), theres alot more stuff out there for the 64s. Ive never not been able to find what I need for my 65 but you sometimes have to do alot more searching. If you really want to have fun, buy a 68 and go looking for parts.
I'm down the bottom of the world, most parts are hard to come by! Both of them are sedans and have 390s thrown in them and in similar condition. It's just a matter of if I miss out on the '64 I know in a few weeks time the '65 will be up for grabs....maybe.
fact. specs 64 w.b. 119" 65 119" o.l. 209.8" 210" o.w. 80" 77.4" f.t. 61" 62" r.t. 60" 62" 66 is same as 65 except o.w. is 79"
Ain't got a garage, just quite a steep driveway 2400mm wide until I move out of the folks' house. Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated. I'll pass on those science facts to my little brother, just found out he's got a test on galaxies tomorrow actually haha
